IPL 2015: Top 10 Bowlers from Indian Premier League
The Indian Premier League drew to a close over the weekend after weeks of intense competition with both bat and ball.
The Mumbai Indians came away with the tournament trophy but a number of players impressed too, especially the bowlers.
Read on for the top 10 bowlers from the IPL this year.
All stats courtesy of ESPN Cricinfo, correct as of May 25 2015.
10. David Wiese (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
1 of 10
14 matches; 16 wickets; 22.06 bowling average; 4-33 BBI
In at No. 10 comes South African David Wiese of Royal Challengers Bangalore, whose medium-fast seam bowling seemed to translate well in Indian conditions.
He went through wicketless periods in this year’s tournament but managed to contribute well at times for Bangalore, who lost out on a place in the final to Chennai Super Kings.
9. Harshal Patel (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
2 of 10
15 matches; 17 wickets; 19.29 bowling average; 2-12 BBI
Wiese’s Bangalore colleague Harshal Patel follows at No. 9, having impressed on home turf with his medium pace.
The 24-year-old clearly has potential in all forms of the game, and his unflashy consistency here showed just what he can be capable of.
8. Harbhajan Singh (Mumbai Indians)
3 of 10
15 matches; 18 wickets; 24.77 bowling average; 3-27 BBI
Still playing at the age of 34, Harbhajan Singh's 18 wickets this year for Mumbai Indians has brought about a recall to the Indian Test team.
The off-spinner continues to be a wily and tough competitor, and this year he managed to maintain a low bowling average while also playing the role of senior professional.
7. Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Sunrisers Hyderabad)
4 of 10
14 matches; 18 wickets; 22.61 bowling average; 3-26 BBI
Indian seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar has shown himself in the past to be very effective in the game’s shortest form, and in this year’s IPL he did much the same for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
Kumar’s medium pace may not set the world on fire, but he is disciplined and generates movement in the air, something that served him well in this tournament.
6. Mitchell McClenaghan (Mumbai Indians)
5 of 10
12 matches; 18 wickets; 21.44 bowling average; 3-16 BBI
Another overseas star to shine was New Zealand’s Mitchell McClenaghan, who helped Mumbai Indians win the tournament title.
McClenaghan’s 18 wickets came relatively cheaply at 21.44 runs apiece, as he profited on pitches that are usually better suited to spinners.
5. Mitchell Starc (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
6 of 10
13 matches; 20 wickets; 14.55 bowling average; 4-15 BBI
Mitchell Starc was highly effective in the Cricket World Cup for Australia, and he was similarly handy for Bangalore in this year’s IPL.
His 20 wickets came at a very low average of 14.55, showing that his confidence is high as he looks to head for England with the Baggy Green national team this summer.
4. Ashish Nehra (Chennai Super Kings)
7 of 10
16 matches; 22 wickets; 20.40 bowling average; 4-10 BBI
Former Indian left-arm seamer Ashish Nehra enjoyed a golden tournament this year, bringing back memories of his golden years for India in international cricket.
Nehra’s 22 wickets were enormously helpful for Chennai as they made the final, and he answered his critics at home at the same time.
3. Yuzvendra Chahal (Royal Challengers Bangalore)
8 of 10
15 matches; 23 wickets; 18.04 bowling average; 3-40 BBI
Yuzvendra Chahal is just 24 years old, but he led the way for Royal Challengers Bangalore with 24 wickets in this year’s IPL.
The leg-spinner kept his average very low indeed, which is quite an achievement considering he is a very attacking bowler.
2. Lasith Malinga (Mumbai Indians)
9 of 10
15 matches; 24 wickets; 18.50 bowling average; 4-23 BBI
Lasith Malinga’s slingy action and skid off the pitch earned him 24 wickets for the Mumbai Indians this year as he helped carry them to the title.
The Sri Lankan is still one of the most dangerous bowlers in world cricket, and his performances here prove he can still be potent even after numerous fitness problems.
1. Dwayne Bravo (Chennai Super Kings)
10 of 10
17 matches; 26 wickets; 16.38 bowling average; 3-22 BBI
Leading the way is Dwayne Bravo of the Chennai Super Kings, whose 26 wickets helped his side to the final.
It may not have been a successful end for Chennai, but Bravo looked impressive as his accurate seam bowling regularly picked up wickets.
