Chelsea Transfer News: Radamel Falcao Wants Move, Latest Didier Drogba Rumours
Monaco striker Radamel Falcao is "desperate to join Chelsea," according to Matt Law of the Telegraph, who reports the Colombian will "accept a big pay cut" to secure the move.
Law believes Jorge Mendes, the agent of Falcao and Blues boss Jose Mourinho, could make the deal happen. Mendes is helping the Premier League champions pursue another target, but will keep Falcao's future in mind when doing so, per Law:
"Mendes is helping Mourinho in the Chelsea manager’s attempt to sign Antoine Griezmann from Atletico Madrid. He will also attempt to broker a move to Stamford Bridge for Falcao.
The Monaco forward’s wages of £265,000 a week, which United paid this season, would be a stumbling block to Chelsea, whose highest earner Eden Hazard is paid around £200,000 a week. But Falcao is prepared to scale back his demands and accept a lower wage than Hazard to try to make a move to Chelsea happen.

Falcao posted a disappointing season on-loan at Manchester United, scoring four goals in 26 Premier League appearances, per WhoScored.com.
While the 29-year-old worked extremely hard to maintain fitness after last year's serious knee injury, his goalscoring touch has deserted him. As such, United confirmed they wouldn't be taking up the option to permanently secure his future, per the Red Devils' Twitter account:
However, Chelsea's decision to allow Didier Drogba to leave ensures Mourinho needs another attacking alternative to the injury-prone Diego Costa and Loic Remy.
John Cross of the Mirror also believes Falcao is eyeing Stamford Bridge and "ideally" wants to move to London, but notes Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are unlikely to opt for his services.
B/R UK's Sam Tighe believes elite clubs should stay away from signing the player:
It's likely Falcao would have a significant role to play at Chelsea if he did move. Although Mourinho favours one striker, Drogba still racked up 40 appearances across all competitions during the 2014-15 campaign, recorded by WhoScored.
He equalled Falcao's quartet of strikes in the Premier League, while also netting an important goal against Shrewsbury Town en route to the Capital One Cup triumph.
Falcao's goals won United five points throughout the season, which concluded with Louis van Gaal's men finishing six points ahead of Spurs. While his performances lacked the world-class quality we've seen over the years, he still managed to make something of a difference at subtly key times. He could certainly do the same at Chelsea, where the pinpoint delivery and support play would suit his style.

Drogba is considering an offer from Major League Soccer, according to Cross. The Ivorian striker recently confirmed he is interested in moving to the United States, but wouldn't be able to represent another English side, per Cross:
"(Answering whether he would like to head to the MLS) Yeah of course, but I am going to take a few days, few weeks to think about what is good for me next. But all I want to do is play.
A few years ago when I left (Chelsea), I said it before, I would never play for another English team. No disrespect to them, there are some brilliant, fantastic teams in the Premier League, but my love for this club, I can’t share it with another team.
"

Drogba confirmed he has received "some calls from teams" in the Premier League already, but doesn't specify who. Both he and Chelsea are heading into a new chapter.
Mourinho certainly needs to land a striker who doesn't have a history of injury problems, so risking heavy wages on Falcao would be a huge call. Although Mourinho has the quality to help Falcao find his form, one wrong slip in the era of financial fair play could significantly impact Chelsea's future plans.
