Coolest Sports Gear You Wish You Had

Nick DimengoMay 26, 2015

Some may call it swagger while others just may call it being different, but regardless of how it's referred to, having cool, customized sports gear typically draws attention to someone.

While our favorite athletes are often rocking this type of stuff because, well, they're famous and have sponsors who want them to show off the newest designs, us fans aren't always lucky enough to get our hands on things.

But what if we could? Would you want to?

I know there are a few things that I would put on my wish list of coolest sports gear, and these are a few of those that would be rad to call my own.

Alex Torres' Protective Hat

OK, so this oversized, protective hat that New York Mets pitcher Alex Torres is wearing might seem a little bit goofy, but wouldn't it be hilarious to wear out around town?

At first glance, it reminds me of the headgear on Dark Helmet's head in the movie Spaceballs, but who cares? It serves a purpose for Torres and, more importantly, would surely lead to any fan being the talk of a bar.

Look, if people can wear oversized cowboy hats, they can don a baseball cap that's enormously big, so where can I scoop one of these up from?

Superman Cleats

In the customized shoe game, Carolina Panthers quarterback Cam Newton showed that he had Superman-like skills—OK, maybe just the superhero's design on his shoes.

Prior to a playoff game against the San Francisco 49ers during the 2013 season, Cam rocked the colorful cleats in pregame warm-ups, hoping to channel his inner Superman to give him powers big enough to lead his team to a victory.

Unfortunately, the hope fell flat as the Niners beat Carolina, but that doesn't mean that you or I wouldn't still want a pair of these things to show-off.

Andrew Hammond's Hamburglar Hockey Mask

Customized hockey goalie masks have been around for years—and they're still one of the coolest accessories in all of sports.

Used as a way to show off a player's personality, superstitions or nicknames—like Ottawa Senators netminder Andrew Hammond's—these masks act as on-ice tattoos for goalies during the NHL season.

While these things wouldn't be an everyday item for a fan to wear around or to games, it would be rad as all hell to have hanging in a bedroom or office for others to see and, obviously, get a little jealous of.

Skittles Cleats

There are customized kicks, and then there are these things—the most incredibly sweet cleats of Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch.

Due to his love of Skittles, the man known as Beast Mode figured that he would honor the company by getting the colorful candy on his shoes a couple of seasons back.

Proving that his bank account was as big as his sweet tooth, Lynch may have gotten slapped with a $10,000 fine—which is a bit excessive—but when it comes to the cleat game, no one compares to this.

Hockey Stick Putter

I know, I know, the hockey stick putter that's used in the movie Happy Gilmore isn't exactly real, but that doesn't mean a boy can't dream that it was, right?

One of the all-time epic sports movies ever, Happy was able to improve his short game thanks to the help of the customized putter, which led to taking down Shooter McGavin.

Imagine the looks one would get when showing up at the practice green with this thing. They would be a combination of amazed and amused.

Batman Cleats

Talk about a boss move, right?

When Houston Astros rookie Lance McCullers made his major league debut a couple of weeks ago, he did so in some kicks that made everyone not named Batman jealous.

That's because the 21-year-old righty was seen warming up and taking the hill in the superhero's kicks, reminding everyone that he's just a kid at heart—and that he hopes to have the power and strength that Batman has.

Hell, even New York Mets ace Matt Harvey, who is nicknamed the Dark Knight, had to be a little bummed he didn't think of this before.

Hover Golf Cart

As someone who used to work on a golf course's maintenance crew for years back in high school and college, I can tell you firsthand how fun it is to whip a golf cart around.

Now, imagine what it would be like to do so in a hover version.

Well, thanks to the idea from two-time major winner Bubba Watson a few years ago, that dream is a reality, as a few clubs around the country have adapted the concept.

Gliding across water and soaring over fairways and greens, a hover golf cart might just become my main source of transportation if I ever get one.
