Preview

The most talked-about aspect of this year's event centers on the aforementioned “Colossus,” a tournament with a $565 buy-in for a shot at a guaranteed prize pool of $5 million.
In other words, there's a chance it morphs into one of the biggest poker tournaments in history.
The tournament took to Twitter to preview the big event:
While exciting, the massive tournament isn't the only new thing to pay attention to in the coming weeks.
There's a $1,500 DraftKings 50/50 No-Limit Hold’em event, which some fake-sports enthusiasts will recognize—like daily fantasy sports 50/50 leagues, only half of the field will receive a payout depending on where they place.
For Martin Harris of PokerNews.com, the fantasy football-inspired event offers a new strategy for players to consider:
"The Colossus is obviously going to be interesting, primarily to witness the logistical acrobatics needed to accommodate the largest-ever WSOP tournament field. The $1,500 DraftKings 50/50 No-Limit Hold'em will be curious to see in terms of strategy thanks to the unusual payouts. But again for this fan of non-NLHE games, the $50,000 Poker Players' Championship is the non-Main Event tournament I'll follow most closely from start to finish.
"
There's also a $1,500 Bounty No-Limit Hold’em, where every player is a bounty worth $500.
Perhaps most interesting of all? WSOP.com will offer an elusive 11th new bracelet through a real-money tournament online. It's a long-requested event finally a reality and starts July 2 until six players remain, where things will transition to Las Vegas.
It seems not only a sign of the times, but the direction of the tournament in future years. WSOP executive director Ty Stewart says this year is all about paying as many players as possible to help the event grow.
“We’re aiming to get more recreational players involved,” Stewart told Michael Shapiro of the San Francisco Chronicle.

Seth Palansky, vice president of corporate communications for Caesars Interactive Entertainment Inc., echoed these sentiments to ESPN.com's Dave Tuley: "They're mostly geared toward getting new players to the game. We really took a hard look at everything we offer and wanted to make the WSOP more accessible to recreational and home-game players."

Each year, the WSOP does more and more to broaden its horizons and reach. Last year, the event added major tournaments such as the Monster Stack and Millionaire Maker, yet more fights for bracelets.
With the goal to further the sport and perhaps craft the biggest main event in series history, this year the WSOP once again pulls out all the stops with both innovation and accessibility to once again walk the inclusive pro tightrope.
On paper, before the chips and cards fly, it's clear the WSOP has another winner on its hands. Now players just need to step to the table and seize a bracelet in one of the globe's biggest growing spectacles.
