Sen'Derrick Marks Is Jacksonville Jaguars' Most Important Defender in 2015
Sen'Derrick Marks is unstoppable, determined and just an all-around beast. He quickly found his way for the Jacksonville Jaguars and his performance over the past two years has been spectacular at best, and satisfying at worst.
Typically, a player like Marks gains recognition because of a singular statistic. Sacks, forced fumbles or tackles will be the singular mark of greatness, but Marks has done so much more than that.
Addressing his work on the field first, it's apparent at first look that something big happened to Marks when he left the Tennessee Titans for the Jaguars. The devastating and tenacious Marks who Jaguars fans know now was non-existent in Tennessee.

Projecting Every NFL Team's Starting Lineup 🔮

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Here are Marks' career stats:
| Team | Solo Tackles | Sacks | Forced Fumbles | Fumble Recoveries | Passes Defended | Interceptions |
| Titans | 7 | 1.0 | 0 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
| Titans | 14 | 0.0 | 1 | 0 | 3 | 1 |
| Titans | 15 | 0.5 | 1 | 0 | 1 | 0 |
| Titans | 30 | 1.5 | 1 | 0 | 3 | 0 |
| Jaguars | 28 | 4.0 | 2 | 3 | 8 | 0 |
| Jaguars | 34 | 8.5 | 0 | 1 | 3 | 0 |
He never reached above 1.5 sacks in Tennessee, and while he forced three fumbles and totaled an interception in four years, he never reached the playmaking status he's reached in Duval County.
But when he reached the Jaguars, he fit in near perfectly and was set up for success. Head coach Gus Bradley's defensive scheme asked for a player like Marks, and he obviously didn't disappoint.
Marks is now entering his seventh season and at 28 years old, he was one of the Jaguars' oldest players. Twenty-eight is a relatively young age for a key veteran, which is why Marks is so important to the Jaguars.
It's a very real possibility that Marks hasn't reached his ceiling yet. He's improved each season with the Jaguars, and he's at peak physical shape. While it will be difficult, he can improve on his sack numbers, forced fumbles and his passes defended.

Marks is like a default character in a video game: He does nearly everything well, and while he doesn't lead the NFL in any certain category, he's extremely talented. His inclusion in the NFL's Top 100 at No. 76 is validation of his skill.
However, Marks is just as valuable to the Jaguars defense off the field as he is on the field. Marks is a leader and a motivator, and he seems to love the game as much as anyone you'll see.
Bradley and general manager Dave Caldwell have made it a point to add players who demonstrate ability and the proper character. Marks is the Jaguars' shining example of this, and he has become one of the Jaguars' top role models in a span of two seasons.
Marks has shined recently off the field by voluntarily taking 18-year-old cancer patient Khameyea Jennings to her prom. Jennings recently succumbed to her liver cancer, but the impact Marks had on her and the impact she had on him will last forever.
A tweet from Marks on May 3 showed his admiration and thanks to Jennings.
This is not an attempt to convince people of Marks' worth; these are the facts. Marks isn't going to be the face of the franchise, but there may not be a more important player on and off the field for the Jaguars.
There is a lot of hype and hope coming up to the 2015 season, and Marks will continue to be a driving force. He's shown no signs of stopping, and with some newfound help from Michael Bennett and Jared Odrick, Marks is in an even better position to succeed this season.
It's easy to praise players to a fault, but very few players have been as individually beneficial to this franchise like Marks has the past two seasons. He embraced the Jaguars and the foundation being built, despite the lack of recognition at times and the losing seasons.
The question of whether or not Marks will continue to be the most impactful player on the defense won't be answered until the season, but I can't see him not at least holding his own. He's good enough to succeed in various aspects of the game, which makes his "off" performances still helpful.
Marks is a multifaceted player who will be the Jaguars' most important defender this year and probably for years to come. Players as talented and genuine as Marks don't come often, so enjoy what Marks offers as a player and as a person while it lasts.
Oh, and rookie offensive linemen of the NFL, be on your toes. Marks is already studying and lining up his prey, as seen in this May 15 tweet.
