Crowne Plaza Invitational 2015: Leaderboard Scores and Highlights from Saturday

Adam WellsMay 23, 2015

Due to weather concerns at Colonial Country Club, Saturday's third round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational got started early, with players put into foursomes to avoid storms. It made for an early, action-packed day, with Kevin Na keeping the lead with one day left to play.

Presumably because of the early start, players were able to take advantage of the solid conditions. There are 61 players under par through three rounds, and 50 finished below 70 on Saturday.

All eyes will be on Na with 18 holes to play as he seeks his first PGA Tour win since 2011, though he's got a lot of work to do, with Ian Poulter just one stroke behind at 10 under and Charley Hoffman at nine under par.

Sunday's final round will once again feature an early start due to expected bad weather. The PGA Tour Media tweeted threesomes will begin around 7 a.m. local time:

Here's the full leaderboard following Saturday's third round from Fort Worth, Texas:

Na's day started with him just going for efficiency and not trying to make a mistake. He went par-par on the first two holes before connecting with a smooth birdie on No. 3 that briefly gave him a two-shot lead, per PGA Tour:

Poulter has quietly climbed up to the top of the leaderboard. He started the tournament with five-under 65, followed it with a 67 on Friday and finished Saturday with a solid 68.

Like Na, Poulter will be looking to end a long winless streak on the PGA Tour Sunday. His last victory came in the WGC-HSBC Champions event in November 2012, though he did have a solid sixth-place finish at this year's Masters.

One hole that Poulter will be beating himself up over, especially if he doesn't win, is the 10th hole. The 39-year-old took a double-bogey six on the par-four after a disastrous four-putt from 20 feet, with the last two strokes looking like this, according to PGA Tour:

According to Justin Ray of the Golf Channel, prior to the 10th hole, Poulter had been masterful on the greens this week:

Jordan Spieth will also be kicking himself if he doesn't win this event. The 21-year-old Masters champion dazzled with a 64 on Thursday but lost three strokes on Friday after shooting five over par on a five-hole stretch.

Saturday, the world's second-ranked player bounced back into contention with a three-under par 67. Spieth will start the final round at six-under par, five shots off the lead. He did give one shot back with a bogey on the 18th hole, but it was an otherwise solid day for the Texas native.

As this highlight video from the PGA Tour shows, Spieth got off to a quick start with two birdies on his first three holes:

Spieth said after Friday's second round he went into the day with a plan due to the weather that wound up not being executed, according to the Associated Press (h/t the Seattle Times).

“I had a goal in mind, and it was a higher score than (Thursday) given the conditions,” said Spieth, the 21-year-old Dallas player playing consecutive weeks at home in North Texas. “I wanted no blemishes, and then we held that late through 12 holes.”

While the conditions Saturday weren't exactly the same as Friday, Spieth seemed more poised on the course, and his final score indicates an adjustment made overnight. Now, he's got 18 holes left to make something happen.

Adam Scott, who is seeking his second straight win at this event, was one of the big winners to finish early. The 34-year-old finished with a four-under 66 and is five shots off the lead. It's asking too much for the Australian star to win, but a top-10 finish would be encouraging after last week's Wells Fargo Championship.

Speaking to Bill Nichols of the Dallas Morning News before the tournament started, Scott talked about being frustrated with his game this season:

"

I certainly haven’t put any numbers on the board, and that’s really what it’s down to now. I just gotta really grind it out and get the most out of it, whereas I feel this year I’ve really gotten the least out of my game. I’ve made the worst of it, and that’s not a nice feeling at all. So, easily frustrated.

"

Scott started the tournament looking like he was going to be in trouble again, finishing with a 72 on Thursday. He has responded with consecutive rounds of 66. It's a positive step for the former Masters champion.

Moving day certainly lived up to its name, with players like Poulter and Charley Hoffman putting the pressure on Na, as well as Spieth, Scott and a slew of others getting within striking distance heading into Sunday. The South Korean star held up well against the pressure and has everything working with 18 holes to play.

The early start times Sunday won't leave players any time to sit around waiting for something to happen. It's going to be another early day with a lot of movement, though that seemed to work well for most of the field Saturday.
