England suffered two early wickets as Adam Lyth fell in the third over and Gary Ballance in the eighth, while Alastair Cook and Ian Bell were restricted to 32 and 29, respectively, as England finished the day on 74 for two thanks to some economical bowling.

After finishing well on Day 2, it took Williamson and Ross Taylor just two overs to make their century and half-century, respectively.
Taylor made it to 62 before becoming the first dismissal of the day as Broad took his second wicket of the innings, edging the ball for Jos Buttler to make an outstanding one-handed catch.
Taylor's dismissal prompted the arrival of Brendon McCullum at the crease, with the batsman reaching a respectable 42 runs from just 38 balls.

Wood got the all-important wicket that sent McCullum walking and added a second after a lunch break was extended due to rain, as he took Corey Anderson for a meagre nine.
Williamson finally fell to Ali in the 120th over, and the 24-year-old has rightly caught the eye with his outstanding start to his career:
Ali then enjoyed a second wicket in just three balls as he sent Mark Craig packing for a duck with a leg before wicket.
Tim Southee fell soon after for 11 as Jimmy Anderson finally made his mark, and Wood struck for a third time straight after tea to dismiss Matt Henry for 10, as England showed determination to resume batting before the close of play.

Watling, who began his innings alongside Williamson, maintained a steady pace as his team-mates succumbed one by one to reach his unbeaten half-century.
Trent Boult also fell for a duck as he took a swing at Broad's delivery, edging high into the air for Anderson to claim on the second try after initially spilling his diving catch.
England typically got off to a difficult start at the crease, with Lyth edging to third slip for Southee to make a straightforward catch before the New Zealander forced Ballance to clip onto off stump as England went 25 for two.
Cook and Bell will begin the batting on Day 4, but some excellent restrictive bowling from Boult, including two maidens, saw them fail to rack up a significant total.
It was key that Cook and Bell stayed in, but England will need to step up their batting performance if they are to stand any chance of setting a competitive total here.
