Kurt Busch's Ex-Girlfriend Patricia Driscoll Allegedly Took Money from Charity
Patricia Driscoll has been at the forefront as of late due to her messy and public breakup with NASCAR star Kurt Busch, but the Armed Forces Foundation president is now facing allegations of embezzlement.
According to an investigative report by ESPN's Outside The Lines, documented by Mike Fish, the 37-year-old businesswoman, author and philanthropist is accused of using the Armed Forces Foundation as her own personal bank by using charity funds to pay for various expenditures.
The report alleges that Driscoll has used the charity credit card for "various personal expenses, including bills for a private company Driscoll owns." The report went on to note an example found by Outside The Lines, in which it is alleged "the foundation credit card was used to pay a bill that included what appear to be Driscoll's personal state and federal taxes."
Despite the allegations that she tapped into charity funds, however, Armed Forces Foundation board member Hugh Webster seems to believe that Driscoll will be exonerated, per a statement passed along by Fish:
"Our board, as well as our executive and finance committees, put in place internal controls with consultation with our outside accountants and auditors, to uphold in every way our responsibility to the organization, its donors and partners, and most importantly the veterans and their families we serve.
Furthermore, in accordance with our policies and procedures, an outside audit firm reviews our accounting to ensure full compliance. We are confident in our systems and controls, even as we seek to constantly improve, which is inherent in the culture of any good organization.
"
Driscoll has previously alleged that Busch smashed her head against a wall last year at Dover International Speedway. That resulted in the former Sprint Cup champion being suspended for the start of the 2015 season, although he has since returned to action.
With the Busch situation out of the spotlight, Driscoll is now the one who is under fire.
The Armed Forces Foundation is among the most prestigious and well-respected charities in the United States, so if ESPN's findings turn out to be accurate, the backlash will be immense for Driscoll and anyone else who may have been involved.
