WWE NXT Takeover Results: Biggest Winners, Losers and Moments from Unstoppable

Erik BeastonMay 21, 2015

Wednesday night, NXT was once again the talk of the wrestling world as WWE's developmental brand turned in another outstanding two-hour live special, featuring tremendous wrestling, unexpected swerves and the debut of one of wrestling's hottest and most coveted free agents.

In the night's main event, Kevin Owens again proved why he is the sport's greatest villain, sporting a John Cena T-shirt to the ring before mercilessly picking apart opponent Sami Zayn. Just as he vowed to do last week, he exploited the injury he dealt the former champion and left him unable to continue.

It was the second time he had done such a thing.

Relentless in his quest to maim his fellow NXT Superstars while retaining his title and providing a better life for his family, Owens is the best-booked character in the entire company.

But that does not mean he was the biggest winner of the night at Unstoppable.

No, that honor is shared by two other individuals who stole the show with a wrestling match that instantly ranked as one of the matches of the year.

Winners: Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch

Fans had reason to suspect the NXT Women's Championship match between Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks would be good. After all, the Divas have regularly stolen the show in NXT live specials over the last year, so there was precedent for such high expectations.

But the classic that these two women delivered at Unstoppable far exceeded even the loftiest of expectations, leading to a Match of the Year candidate.

Banks has been the best women's wrestler in North America for months now, consistently delivering show-stealing performances, regardless of who she shares the ring with. From the arm work to the psychology she employed Wednesday night, she again proved her status as the elite of the elite in the business.

Lynch, on the other hand, had her coming-out party Wednesday. Sure, everyone knew she was good. All you had to do was search out some of her Indy work as Rebecca Knox to find that out, but few realized the wicked chemistry she would have with Banks.

In one night, the Irishwoman catapulted herself to the top of the industry with a performance that would make most men on the main roster envious.

The match was easily the best of the night and really showcased what women in the year 2015 are capable of when given the opportunity to succeed.

Hopefully Vince and Stephanie McMahon were watching and paid close attention to the quality and reception of the bout.

Loser: Sami Zayn

The story of the NXT Championship match made absolute sense, with Kevin Owens pummeling Sami Zayn into oblivion and rendering him unable to continue the match. It lined up with the type of wrestler Owens is at this point and made good on the champion's promise to dismantle Zayn.

This writer had no problem with the match at all.

Zayn is the biggest loser from Wednesday night because, after having been built up as a babyface on a quest for revenge and determined to hurt the man he once called friend, he was a complete afterthought the moment Samoa Joe made his debut and confronted the current titleholder Owens.

Sure, Zayn will stay over, thanks to the sympathy and charisma he exudes, not to mention the tremendous ring work fans have come to expect from him, but it is hard to suggest he was anything but a tackling dummy for Owens to set up Joe's debut and the eventual showdown between the two baddest men in NXT.

Where this leaves the Canadian-born competitor going forward is a bit of a mystery at this point.

Winner: Finn Balor

Another outstanding performance from the Demon of NXT kicked off the show Wednesday night as Balor squared off with Tyler Breeze in a No. 1 contender's match.

From the moment his theme music played and he stepped out from behind the curtain, clad in a dragon-esque costume for his elaborate entrance, Balor had the fans in the palm of his hand.

Once the match got started, he and Breeze wowed the audience with a fast-paced bout that, at one point, looked like it may go either way. But Balor was able to overcome an exposed turnbuckle and even the Supermodel Kick from Breeze to land the Coup De Grace and secure another title opportunity.

Balor is arguably the most popular star in NXT, and the most main roster-ready. But now that he is No. 1 contender once again, creative must decide whether they want to reward his overness with a championship victory or if a loss to Kevin Owens will indirectly propel him to the bright lights of Monday Night Raw.

Loser: Emma

The once-bubbly Diva desperately needed a win Wednesday night in order to jump-start her push as a heel on the Divas roster. Instead of walking away victoriously with partner Dana Brooke, she and the fitness model were defeated by Charlotte and Emma in tag team action.

Making matters worse? It was the Aussie who was pinned, effectively ending her heel run before it ever really was allowed to pick up any considerable steam.

Sure, fans greeted her with chants of "evil Emma" and she played up the role to near perfection, but she had credibility erased by the loss and that is never a good thing.

Now, with NXT television tapings coming up, it will be imperative that she receive some solid booking on the part of creative or risk becoming another face in the crowd, which she already is on the main roster.

And that is unfortunate given her considerable talent.
