Most Dramatic Sports Moments of the Week

Garrett BakerMay 22, 2015

More sports, more drama, more NBA and NHL playoffs—that's the mantra for this week's slideshow.

With both the NBA and NHL advancing yet another round deeper into the playoffs, the drama and intensity got amped up just a little bit more. This week, the MLB also makes its mark on the list.

Here are the most dramatic moments from the past week in sports.

Chicago-Anaheim Triple OT

1 of 8

Game 2 of the Western Conference Final between the Anaheim Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks will undoubtedly go down as one of the best NHL playoff games of all time.

The two teams got rolling early, with three total goals being scored in the first period and the game-tying goal happening in the second period. This was followed up by an unbelievable three full periods without a single goal.

It certainly wasn't for lack of trying, however, as both teams battled incredibly hard, and numerous pucks bounced off posts. Andrew Shaw definitely thought he had the game-winner with a ridiculous head-butt in the second overtime, but it was disallowed.

Finally, in the third overtime period, Marcus Kruger found the puck on his stick and put it home to give Chicago the big victory.

Warriors Take Game 1

2 of 8

The Houston Rockets and Golden State Warriors have plenty of star power, with the matchup between Stephen Curry and James Harden being the focal point of these Western Conference Finals.

Game 1 certainly got things moving in the right direction, with plenty of high-flying action and a major comeback as well.

Houston jumped out to a big 16-point lead, but the Warriors closed the first half on a 21-4 run to get back in the game, and they didn't look back.

Golden State kept pushing behind a raucous home crowd, and Houston simply didn't have enough after Dwight Howard left with a knee injury as the Warriors escaped with a 110-106 win.

Warriors Take Game 2

3 of 8

After a riveting Game 1, the Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets came back on Thursday night to battle yet again.

It was basically the opposite of the big lead changes and comebacks of Game 1, with the two sides being locked up practically from the opening whistle.

Game 2 was truly a battle of the stars, with Curry and Harden stealing the show. Curry hit some huge shots late in the game, and while Harden did his best to match him, he came up short with a last-second opportunity as the Warriors clamped down for the 99-98 win.

Rangers Take Game 1

4 of 8

In Game 1 of the Eastern Conference Final, it seemed like neither team would be able to break through and open the game up.

Derek Stepan finally lit the lamp with just 13 seconds remaining in the second period, but the Lightning answered with a goal of their own roughly seven minutes into the third.

Both goalies were fantastic, but it was New York's Henrik Lundqvist who made the big saves when it counted while Ben Bishop allowed a late tally from Dominic Moore to give the Rangers a big win.

Zimmerman Hits 10th-Inning Walk-off

5 of 8

The New York Yankees and Washington Nationals are two of the better teams in the MLB this season, and it's not often that they get the chance to face each other.

After the Yankees jumped out to a 6-2 lead, the Nationals answered with four straight runs behind the power of Wilson Ramos, who extended his hit streak to 19 games.

That forced extras, although they sure didn't last long. Ryan Zimmerman stepped up to bat in the bottom of the 10th and smacked one off the foul pole to give Washington a nice walk-off victory.

LIghtning Win Game 3 in OT

6 of 8

The New York Rangers and Tampa Bay Lightning had been firing on all cylinders in the first two games of the Eastern Conference Final, and Game 3 was no different.

Each squad's offense was absolutely on fire, while Lundqvist and Bishop weren't really up to the challenge in net. New York jumped out to a 2-0 lead, but Tampa Bay stormed back to take a 4-2 lead.

The Rangers initiated a comeback of their own, forcing overtime with a late goal from Dan Boyle.

But then in overtime, the Lightning had a couple of excellent chances before Nikita Kucherov ripped a shot past Lundqvist to give Tampa Bay the 2-1 series lead.

Hawks Win Series in Dramatic Fashion

7 of 8

The series between the Atlanta Hawks and Washington Wizards had been absolutely bonkers through the first five games, so it should come as no surprise that Game 6 was crazy as well.

DeMarre Carroll led the Hawks with 25 points, and Bradley Beal dropped 29 for the Wizards as the two teams battled all night.

The Wizards tried to stage a comeback in the fourth quarter and were literally a fraction of a second away from completing it.

Paul Pierce hit the apparent game-tying three-pointer right as the buzzer expired, but video review showed that it was still on the tip of his finger when the clock struck zero, and the Hawks escaped with the series.

Ducks-Blackhawks Down to the Wire

8 of 8

The Anaheim Ducks and Chicago Blackhawks had to be absolutely dead tired after their three-overtime classic in Game 2.

While that fatigue showed a little bit in Game 3, the desperation from both sides was also very apparent as they traded goals in the first and second periods.

Anaheim ended up with the last goal, which Simon Despres scored in the second period. Despite a barrage from Chicago through the whole third period and especially in the closing minutes, Anaheim somehow held on for a huge 2-1 victory.
