An Interim Champ Without a Long Resume

Fighters at the lowest weight classes don't get the same type of recognition as bigger athletes, so it's not uncommon for a world champion below bantamweight to remain relatively obscure to even fairly dedicated fans.

Given the proliferation of alphabet-soup "interim" belts at the lowest weight classes, sometimes a titleholder is justifiably obscure. Sanchez became the WBA interim champion by beating 13-9-1 Breilor Teran.

But Sanchez also beat former champion Juan Alberto Rosas by TKO in his last fight, so he's a legitimate contender. The Ring has him ranked No. 10 in the world at 115 pounds, and BoxRec has him all the way up at No. 4.

At just 23, Sanchez has served a fairly typical hard-knocks apprenticeship in the Mexican ranks. He turned pro at 16 and went just 10-2-2 in his first 14 fights. He's gone 17-0 since and is ready to become one of the top smaller fighters in the world.

A Hard-Nosed Opponent Who Comes to Fight

Ramos is a Colombian native with a professional record that stretches back to 2002. He actually fought for the WBO super flyweight title in 2006, losing by unanimous decision to longtime champion Omar Narvaez.

Ramos has a professional record of 23-6-2, but only four of his victories have come against opponents with a winning record.

But he's knocked out 14 and has been stopped four times himself. Los Mochis is one of the great boxing cities on the planet, so hopefully he'll make for a great fight on Saturday against Sanchez.
