Indy 500 Snake Pit 2015: Artist Lineup, Event Info and Full Schedule
For some, going to the 2015 Indianapolis 500 isn't about watching the biggest stars in the IndyCar Series battle over 200 laps to determine a winner. Instead, it's about crashing the infield of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and entering the Snake Pit.
Decades ago, the Snake Pit was known as a place of debauchery. Its official history makes no bones about how crazy things got during the 1970s:
"What exactly happened in those days in the original Snake Pit? It’s probably easier to describe what didn’t happen. Let’s just say almost anything went in the quest for a good time among the young and the young at heart of the Midwest.
Streaking. Stripping. Booze. Brawls. Football. Frisbees. Music. Bikers. Students. The Snake Pit was a combination of Woodstock and Spring Break for thousands of Midwestern kids.
"
To put it nicely, the Snake Pit was a product of its era. You certainly can't imagine fans getting away with that kind of stuff today.
The popularity of the Snake Pit died down in the ensuing decades as things went overboard. It wasn't until more recently that the Indianapolis Motor Speed went about to build it back up again as a feature attraction.
The atmosphere on the infield is slightly more toned down, but it doesn't come at the cost of fun and entertainment. One look at the hype video for this year's Snake Pit offers a taste of what to expect this Sunday.
Scenes like this won't be altogether uncommon either:
Below you'll find the full lineup for the event and a brief preview for this year's Snake Pit.

Kaskade, who specializes in electronic dance music, serves as the headliner. He gets prime placement right after the checkered flag waves. The 44-year-old Chicago native has been nominated for four Grammy Awards since 2013.
J. Douglas Boles, president of the Indy Motor Speedway, said in March that disc jockeys like Kaskade fit into the type of act the venue targets in order to appeal to concertgoers, per NBCSports.com:
"We've seen a renewed popularity in the Snake Pit presented by Miller Lite in the past few years and our younger fans really enjoy the direction in which it’s been going. Kaskade, Steve Aoki, and A-Trak are among the world's leading electronic music artists, and combining their talents with the other entertainment we have planned will make our Snake Pit the place to be for the most entertaining party in Indianapolis this year.
"
For Kaskade, the Indy Snake Pit is merely a brief stop on a frenzied three-day journey:
Steve Aoki is another of the more notable acts performing in the Snake Pit, which is somewhat surprising after he revealed on Facebook that he'll have to undergo surgery to repair his vocal cords, per the Associated Press (via ABCNews.com).
Aoki admitted that his two decades of performing have come at a physical cost and that if he didn't have the surgery, then his vocal cords could've been irreparably damaged.
The Snake Pit wished Aoki the best and acknowledged that it lucked out in terms of timing:
This being Aoki's last show before his surgery certainly adds a bit more allure, and he'll likely make sure the show is a little bit more special before he takes his break.
This year's Snake Pit is certainly shaping up to be special.
