NBA Lottery 2015: TV Schedule, Live Stream and Preview for Anticipated Event

Rob GoldbergMay 19, 2015

While NBA teams that missed the playoffs have been preparing for the 2015 draft for some time, everything will be changed after the NBA lottery Tuesday night.

Even the worst teams in the league aren't guaranteed one of the top spots thanks to this event, which gives any non-playoff team a chance to get one of the first three picks. The Minnesota Timberwolves have the best odds to select No. 1 overall after finishing with the worst record in the NBA, but we've seen crazy things happen in the past.

Here is everything you need to know heading into the potentially league-altering event.

An interesting factor regarding the Timberwolves sitting on top of the list is the fact that they could technically have the No. 1 player in the draft three years in a row.

Andrew Wiggins was drafted first overall by the Cleveland Cavaliers before being traded to Minnesota for Kevin Love in 2014. Despite the poor team record, this seems to be working out for the T-Wolves, as Wiggins became the Rookie of the Year in the NBA this season.

He certainly excited fans with plenty of highlight plays throughout the year.

Along with 2013 No. 1 pick Anthony Bennett, who was also included in the Love trade, Minnesota could make a habit of acquiring these top picks with another one in 2015.

If a different team is treated to the No. 1 selection, you can be certain that there will be a lot of fans on either coast hoping for the New York Knicks or Los Angeles Lakers to climb up to the top. These two popular franchises are coming off miserable seasons while also lacking too much talent throughout the roster.

While fans will hope for free-agent signings in both cases, NBC Sports breaks down why the draft is more important:

Not only will winning this lottery certainly be a way to bring in talent to a team that needs it, but it will also provide a chance to get a marketable star in a major market.

As far as the players who will be taken, there seems to be a general consensus that Karl-Anthony Towns and Jahlil Okafor are the top two prospects in some order. Magic Johnson watched a lot of them but seemed to think that either center would be a good decision for an NBA franchise, via Adam Zagoria of SNY.tv:

"

It just depends on what you want. If you want the guy that can consistently score, I think Okafor is the guy that can consistently score. Towns, we saw him do it much later than Okafor. I think Okafor started in the beginning, Towns looked like he got better. As the season went along, he found himself. They’re so talented and young, I would take either one.

"

It's also important to note that Towns should be a much better defender at the next level, to counter the offense which Okafor can provide.

Of course, fans shouldn't count out the possibility of either Emmanuel Mudiay or D'Angelo Russell going No. 1 for teams that need a point guard. The Philadelphia 76ers would certainly be a squad that thinks hard about making this pick if they are on the clock.

Everything comes down to the results of Tuesday's lottery. No matter where everyone ends up picking, this will just be the start of a lot of debates heading into the NBA draft.
