Barney Going for Two in a Row

Thursday's all-Dutch semi-final sees the last two Premier League champions go head-to-head, as 2014 winner Van Barneveld takes on 2013 champ and world No. 1 Van Gerwen.

It is set to be a blockbuster encounter with Barney unlikely to give up his crown easily. Despite Van Gerwen's consistent excellence throughout the competition, anything can happen in a one-off clash.

Indeed, the last time the pair met in Aberdeen in April, Barney prevailed 7-3, following his defeat of Phil Taylor the week before.

Taylor has failed to make the play-offs of the Premier League for the first time in the tournament's history, per Sky Sports, but the quality on show should surely make up for his absence:

Both Barney and Van Gerwen are in terrific form, with the former having won five and drawn one since April's Judgement Night and the latter with four wins, a draw and a defeat.

The pair going head-to-head would be a worthy final, but instead, one of the great Dutchmen will crash out in the last four.

The increase from best-of-12 to best-of-19 legs may well favour Van Gerwen, but Van Barneveld has shown in the past that he can hack it at the very highest level.

Chisnall Looking to Spring Another Surprise

Chisnall has surprised many this year with a truly impressive showing by finishing second in only his second campaign in the Premier League.

However, he is not done yet, and he is targeting a title that would see him catapulted into the darting top drawer, per Sky Sports: "If I win it, it’s my first major competition. It will prove that I can push for more. ... My best memory this season is beating Gary Anderson twice because he’s the world champion. That’s my highlight. But I’ve also enjoyed travelling the country."

As the St. Helens man notes, he has had Anderson's number so far in this tournament, but he needs to beat him again on Thursday to claim a final spot that seemed highly unlikely before the season started.

His draw against Van Gerwen in the last round of the regular season in Brighton was quite remarkable, with both players averaging over 100, per BetVictor:

If Chizzy takes that kind of form to the oche against Anderson in the last four, the Scot could be in trouble.

However, Anderson has some serious pedigree as the reigning world champion and 2011 Premier League winner.

His consistency is remarkable, and Anderson's greater experience at the business end of major tournaments could give him the edge over Chisnall.

Whichever pair reach the best-of-21-legs final, it is sure to be a high-quality, nerve-shredding encounter, topping off a great season in the Premier League.
