The Leafs give Jason Allison a Look
All eyes and cameras will be on former NHL veteran forward Jason Allison at training camp, who despite facing some insurmountable odds is fully confident that he can prove the experts wrong this fall by earning a roster spot on the Toronto Maple Leafs. This 34 year-old, who last played in the NHL with the Leafs in 2006 enjoyed his best seasons with the Boston Bruins starting in 1998 when he enjoyed a solid 83 point season. A couple of years later in 2001 this North York Ontario native enjoyed his best statistical season with 95 points. Allison, who was drafted first round in 1993 by the Washington Capitals has also played for the Los Angeles Kings and the one season with Toronto where in 66 games he scored 60 points. Following that campaign Allison, who has 485 career points in 552 games hasn’t played in the last couple of seasons due to an assortment of injuries, and off-ice issues due to a messy divorce. Even though the club has agreed to give him a look in training camp with no promises Allison, who approached the club this summer is excited and optimistic about this opportunity. “I’m physically and mentally as healthy as I’ve been in five years,” Allison said. “I’m excited and ready to go.” This will definitely be an interesting story to follow and I for one will be pulling for Allison to not only make it back to the NHL but also to once again flourish in his surroundings.
