Preakness Results 2015: Video Replay, Payout Info and Top Moments
American Pharoah successfully ticked off race No. 2 in his bid for the famed Triple Crown with a fabulous victory at the Preakness Stakes in Baltimore on Saturday.
Bob Baffert’s colt produced a stunning win at the Kentucky Derby at the start of the month, and he picked up from where he left off under jockey Victor Espinoza.
Coming into the race, American Pharoah was the overwhelming favourite, but after drawing the rail and there being a storm ahead of the action, it was suddenly anyone’s to win.
However, Espinoza and American Pharoah simply weren’t fazed, going on to record a convincing five-length victory, as the video replay below shows:
The field comprised several Kentucky Derby runners, including strong performers Danzig Moon and Firing Line, but neither of them really got going, with sixth- and seventh-place finishes respectively.

Top Moments

While American Pharoah’s victory will grab all of the headlines, it’s Tale of Verve who arguably produced the performance of the day.
Dallas Stewart’s horse came into the race having never competed in a graded stakes meet, but looked right at home on the rain-soaked track.
Jockey Joel Rosario’s race plan worked perfectly, as Tale of Verve really hit the gas on the final turn to come out of nowhere and finish runner-up.

He was a good few lengths behind Dortmund, Mr. Z and Divining Rod going into that final corner, but he just found another gear and romped to the front of American Pharoah’s chasing pack.

That move alone earned Tale of Verve’s team an additional $255,000, and following the race, Rosario praised his horse’s timing, as noted by Associated Press writer David Ginsburg (via Yahoo Sports):
“I had a perfect trip. The farther we went, he kept picking it up.”
Tale of Verve was expect to be an also-ran, but his late surge was nothing short of brilliant—even Daily Racing Form’s Matt Bernier was shocked at the outcome:
The colt will now head to the Belmont Stakes looking for a repeat performance but would love to go one better and prevent American Pharoah from winning the Triple Crown.
That, however, will be far from easy.
Horses emerging from the first trap can get lost in the pack at Baltimore, but American Pharoah showed that he has the power to force his way into an early lead from whichever post.

He didn’t actually emerge as quick as he possibly could but showed brutal acceleration over the next 10 metres to take the lead.
From then on, it was the American Pharoah show, and such was his dominance that ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick tweeted that the horse should have milked the victory more:
Will he have time to showboat at the Belmont Stakes on June 6? Based on this form, it looks possible, so it’s safe to say that the Triple Crown is very much under threat.
We haven’t seen a Triple Crown winner since way back in 1978, and while American Pharoah will be physically spent after two high-stakes victories, he could well have enough in the tank for one more impressive showing.
