IPL 2015 Results: Latest Scores, T20 Points Table and Play-Off Fixtures

Matt JonesMay 17, 2015

Mumbai Indians secured their play-off spot in the 2015 IPL on Sunday as they beat Sunrisers Hyderabad by nine wickets in the final game of the tournament's regular season.

Hyderabad were bowled out for just 113 runs batting first, and Lendl Simmons, Parthiv Patel and Rohit Sharma reached the target inside 14 overs.

The weather denied Royal Challengers Bangalore the chance to secure second spot in the Indian Premier League table, as their game with Delhi Daredevils was rained off.

Delhi made 187 for five from their 20 overs thanks to excellent knocks from Quinton de Kock and JP Duminy. Bangalore’s chance to chase the score was cut short after just seven balls, however, as the rain came tumbling down at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium.

Read on for updates from the IPL and a look at the standings ahead of the play-offs.

Mumbai Thrash Hyderabad to Seal Top-Four Spot

3 of 4

Mumbai Indians (114-1) bt. Sunrisers Hyderabad (113 all out) by nine wickets

Both sides came into the Hyderabad clash knowing a loss would see them out of the tournament, while a victory would confirm a top-four spot.

Royal Challengers Bangalore's abandoned encounter with Delhi Daredevils earlier in the day meant second place and a spot in the first qualifier against Chennai Super Kings was up for grabs.

Sunrisers won the toss and elected to bat first. For once, openers David Warner and Skikhar Dhawan didn't fire, falling for six and one respectively.

Eoin Morgan was then dismissed by Mitchell McClenaghan for nine to see Hyderabad struggling on 23 for three in the sixth over.

There was little respite for the hosts as they continued to lose wickets, the bowling of McClenaghan, Lasith Malinga and Jagadeesha Suchith particularly impressive as they shared seven wickets.

Wickets fell at an alarming rate, and Sunrisers could find no momentum as they looked to post a respectable total.

Lokesh Rahul's score of 25 from 24 balls was the biggest contribution from any Hyderabad player, and Praveen Kumar's dismissal off the last ball of the innings as he looked for a second run saw Sunrisers all out for 113.

Chasing a somewhat pitiful target, Mumbai were under little pressure. Openers Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel scored with ease, as Hyderbad put up little fight, per ESPN Cricinfo's Freddie Wilde:

Patel scored an unbeaten 51 from 37 balls with nine fours in a controlled and impressive innings.

Simmons fell to Karn Sharma for 48 with the finishing line in sight, and skipper Rohit Sharma came in to push his side over the line, including a fine straight six.

It was a simple victory for Mumbai as they chased down the target inside 14 overs. They will now face Chennai in Tuesday's first qualifier as they look to make the IPL final.

Rain Frustrates Bangalore Against Delhi

4 of 4

Match Abandoned, Delhi Daredevils (187/5) vs. Royal Challengers Bangalore (2/0, 1.1 overs)

After being put in to bat by the Royal Challengers Bangalore, the onus was on Delhi Daredevils to shift some pressure back on to the bowling side.

In Quinton de Kock, they had the perfect man for the job. The South African batsman has been a little hit and miss in the IPL so far, but he led from the front with a controlled aggression at the top of the order here, making an excellent 69 from just 39 balls.

De Kock was central to 55-run partnerships for the first wicket with Shreyas Iyer (2) and second wicket with skipper JP Duminy. As Freddie Wilde of ESPNcricinfo noted, getting off to a good start has been a major problem for the Daredevils:

"

This was only #DD’s second opening partnership of more than 50 in 14 matches this season. #IPL #RCBvDD #RCB

— Freddie Wilde (@fwildecricket) May 17, 2015"

After De Kock—who smashed nine fours and three sixes during his time at the crease—departed, Duminy took up the mantle of aggressor, keeping up the early momentum established by his compatriot. He made an unbeaten 67 from 43 balls, pushing the Daredevils to 187 for five from their 20 overs.

Although their captain played well, Delhi will have been disappointed not to have made more. Indeed, as we can see here courtesy of CricBuzz, after going well in the first 10 overs, they were unable to accelerate their scoring rate in the second half of the innings:

"

91 runs from the first 10 overs, 96 in the next 10. #RCB need 188 to finish second. Duminy finishes NOT OUT on 67. #IPL #RCBvDD

— Cricbuzz (@cricbuzz) May 17, 2015"

The incentive for Bangalore chasing down this total was a guaranteed second-place finish, but after just seven balls of their response, the action was cut short because of heavy rain.

As we can see here courtesy of the tournament’s official Twitter account, the delay gave the players a chance to indulge in some playful antics:

"

. @henrygayle probably giving a trailer of what's to follow in sometime - @yuvstrong12 #IPL https://t.co/jC2DuOYcze

— IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) May 17, 2015"

A planned restart for 2:30 p.m. BST was scrapped after the rain rolled in once again, and it meant the match was definitely going to be rain-reduced in terms of over. However, the conditions worsened, and with little chance of any play, the umpires decided to call the contest off.

For Bangalore, while they're still in the top four, a win here would have given them the insurance of a top-two spot and, subsequently, an extra game as they attempt to make it into the grand final. Instead, their chances of progression will now be on a knife-edge in the playoffs.
