Calling True or False on 5 Recent Juventus Transfer Rumours
With the season entering its final month, 2014-15 is effectively over for many clubs, with their aims for the campaign either already assured or by now wholly unachievable. As a result, talk inevitably turns to what the summer will bring and how each side can hope to improve in order to enjoy greater success next time around.
Discussions over changing coaches become increasingly commonplace, but it is the transfer chatter which is ultimately the loudest conversation. It has become an endless cycle of news and rumours, even consuming clubs whose biggest challenges this term still lay ahead, threatening to distract players who should be focussing on on-field matters.
As the finals of both the Coppa Italia and Champions League have yet to be held, Juventus stand on the verge of an unthinkable treble, and yet they too are surrounded by hypothetical debates over who should leave or be added to Massimiliano Allegri’s squad.
Over the following pages are five recent rumours concerning transfers the Bianconeri may or may not make, along with an explanation of why they may or may not happen.
5. Radja Nainggolan
1 of 5
One odd name to be linked with Juventus recently has been Radja Nainggolan, the midfielder currently co-owned by AS Roma and Cagliari.
That the Bianconeri are monitoring his situation as reported by Calciomercato.com seems highly improbable given their already-loaded and the club’s relationship with the Giallorossi.
Verdict: False
4. Edinson Cavani
2 of 5
Juventus have been linked heavily with a move for attacking reinforcements, with Edinson Cavani continuing to be among those mentioned.
Gianluca Di Marzio’s website reports that the Old Lady have been in regular contact with the striker, but finding an agreement with Paris Saint-Germain for a player who cost them around €64.5 million seems excessive given the money the Italian giants are set to spend elsewhere.
Verdict: False
3. Alvaro Morata
3 of 5
Following his winning goal in the semi-final against his former club, it was somewhat inevitable that talk of Alvaro Morata returning to Real Madrid would surface. However, the Spanish giants' buyout clause is not active until the summer of 2016 (per Juve’s official website) meaning the Bianconeri could rebuff any approach in the coming months.
Asked about his future by Canal+ this week, the 22-year-old was quick to quash talk of a move back to the Bernabeu. “My future?” Morata said (h/t Football Italia). “To think about returning to Spain at this point would be a lack of respect for Juventus.”
Verdict: False
2. Paul Pogba
4 of 5
When it comes to Juventus and transfers, no name gathers more attention than that of Paul Pogba, who is currently linked with a variety of clubs from across the continent. Former president of France Nicolas Sarkozy has even joked that all Paris Saint-Germain fans need to "pitch in" to sign the midfielder (h/t Goal.com) but a move to the capital seems unlikely.
With UEFA’s Financial Fair Play limitations and a squad in need of strengthening across the board, it seems unlikely PSG could afford to go all in on the 22-year-old, even with Sarkozy’s help.
Verdict: False
1. Paulo Dybala
5 of 5
No name has gotten as much traction on the Juventus rumour mill than that of Paulo Dybala in recent weeks, with the Palermo striker constantly identified as a transfer target for the Bianconeri. According to Gianluca Di Marzio the deal is all but complete, the Sky Italia journalist writing details of the move on his own website.
He believes Juventus management met with Dybala's representatives this week and agreed a five-year contract, and it appears this move will go ahead despite Allegri’s refusal to discuss the situation at his press conference on Friday. “He’s not yet a Juventus player,” the coach said (h/t Football Italia), but it seems to only be a matter of time.
Verdict: True
