Blaise Matuidi and Ezequiel Lavezzi scored for PSG in the win, while Anthony Mounier scored for Montpellier.

PSG have put together an unbeaten run of eight matches since losing to Bordeaux on March 3. Two 1-1 draws with Lyon helped keep Hubert Fournier's team at bay.

This latest trophy marks yet another step in the right direction for PSG, who have become a dominant French force since being taken over by the Qatar Investment Company in 2011. Although the club is yet to reach its potential on the Champions League stage, they are set up for an era of domestic success.

Star striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic remains the team's top Ligue 1 scorer this season, netting 19 in 25 appearances, as recorded by WhoScored.com. Edinson Cavani, who has made 33 appearances, is PSG's next most prolific with 16.

Despite possessing the division's top scorer in Alexandre Lacazette, Lyon's recent defeat against Caen all but ended their chances of taking the silverware.

Winning the title should now be considered a minimum for PSG, who will be itching to land a handful of world-class stars during the summer.

However, the club must spend within UEFA's financial fair play regulations to stop a second fine and squad cap being handed out by FIFA.

Saturday's title triumph will help bolster the side's reputation ahead of the transfer market opening, perhaps aiding the recruitment of vital reinforcements for next season.
