Report: John Terry Spends £150K on AstroTurf so He Doesn't Have to Cut Lawn
It is quite understandable for a footballer to spend a lot of money on some AstroTurf.
Sure, £150,000 seems a bit excessive, but footballers are well-paid, and having a place to practice could actually save them money in the long term.
However, if a report from the Daily Mail's Richard Spillett is to be believed, Chelsea captain John Terry paid that hefty sum to turn his garden into AstroTurf, but not for the reason you might expect.

Terry made the renovation at his £4.3 million mansion that used to be owned by golfer Colin Montgomerie.
The Daily Mail reports:
"The 34-year-old has now replaced the natural grass on which Montgomerie used to practice his putting with artificial turf.
It is believed Terry spent £150,000 installing the AstroTurf, similar to that used on all-weather football pitches around the country.
But rather than undertaking the changes to give himself somewhere to play football, it is believed veteran defender made the alterations so that neither he nor a groundsman will have to spend time mowing the lawn.
"
Come on, John. You have to have the lads around for at least one five-a-side, otherwise it is just a waste.
