The Power Exits in Style
Taylor reminded his fans what he's capable of with an emphatic 7-1 win over Wade during the first match of the evening, ending his Premier League campaign in style.
Both players were already eliminated from the play-offs, but that didn't stop the Power from putting on a show, per Sky Sports Darts:
Taylor averaged north of 108 and hit a fantastic 70 percent on his doubles, numbers that make you wonder how the veteran didn't manage to qualify for the play-offs. Wade won the first leg with a beautiful 96 finish, but from that point onward, it was one-way traffic.
Taylor kept pushing his average up throughout the match, and while he only hit four 180s, he showed he's still one of the most consistent darters in the world.
As shared by the PDC's official Twitter account, he took the time to apologise to his fans after the match and promised he'd improve going into next season:
The 54-year-old is slowly reaching the end of his career, and he won't have many more opportunities to win a seventh title. But if he can consistently play the way he did on Thursday, there's no reason to think he won't be in the running for another title next season.
Michael van Gerwen Finishes in Top Spot After Draw Against Dave Chisnall
Van Gerwen and Chizzy served up a fantastic final match, playing out a 6-6 draw in epic fashion. Neither managed to gain an advantage of more than a single leg throughout the match, and both routinely finished their legs with 12 darts or less.
PDC Darts was shocked by what it was seeing:
Chizzy dazzled with a highest checkout of 161, while Mighty Mike averaged an incredible 113. Both scored better than 60 percent on the doubles.
Raymond van Barneveld continued his fine form with a 7-4 win over Stephen Bunting, beating the young challenger thanks to a better performance on the doubles. The two went back and forth in every single leg and had very similar averages, per PDC Darts, but Barney's checkout percentage made all the difference:
Gary Anderson cruised past Adrian Lewis and looks to be in superb form heading into his semi-final match against Chisnall, which will take place at the O2 Arena in London on May 27. Van Gerwen and Raymond van Barneveld will meet in the other semi-final, an all-Dutch affair.
With Taylor not participating in the play-offs for the first time in 11 years, no one will be quite sure what to expect when the final four descend on London. Van Gerwen looked unbeatable early in the season but has shown signs of weakness of late, while Chizzy and Anderson look to be in sensational form.
Don't count out Van Barneveld either. Barney has the ability to put together a fantastic run on the doubles at any given time, and given the Premier League's shorter format, a match against Van Barneveld can turn into a rout very quickly.
