NFL Week One Point Spread Picks by NFL Mikee: Win Games In The First Week

Thomas MorelandSep 1, 2009

Here are your much awaited point spread picks for week one of the 2009/2010 NFL season.

Pittsburgh is at home against the Tennessee Titans. Pittsburgh will probably win at home, as I have previously picked, but five and half looks a little high for the first game of the season.

Most of the oddsmakers also add an automatic three points to the Super Bowl champion. Take the Titans and the five and a half.

Next, the Atlanta Falcons are at home in a good game against the division winning surprise of last season, the Miami Dolphins. I expect an immediate high powered offense to emerge in Atlanta this season, and I will take the Atlanta Falcons to win this game by five and a half.

The Denver Broncos travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals. The Bengals showed some signs of life late in the season, and Carson Palmer is back. Denver is in turmoil, with a problem receiver and a new coach.

I like the home team in this one. The Bengals by three and a half.

Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings start off at home against a Cleveland team that has looked confused and problematic in the offseason. Most of the country is taking the Vikings by three and a half, myself included.

The Jaguars visit the Colts in Indianapolis, and this game is worrisome. Six and a half seems a bit high in favor of the Coltseven with Peyton Manning. There are question marks on defense and the Colts have a new head coach.

Is Maurice Jones Drew the monster many fantasy league players make him out to be this season? Without Fred Taylor to share carries, he should be very active in this first game. I'm taking Jacksonville and the six and a half points.

The Saints open up against the Lions at home. Can you say 17 regular season losses in a row? Eleven and a half is probably not a high number for Drew Brees. Take the Saints.

The Dallas Cowboys travel to Tampa Bay, and this should be an easy game for Dallas to start the season. New coaches, new players, and a new system await the Cowboys. Dallas wins this game on the road by plenty. Three and a half points is a done deal.

Carolina is at home against Philadelphia. Take the home team in this one, only having to lay a half point. Carolina plays well at home during the season. The playoffs are another story.

Baltimore is at home against Kansas City, and this should be manageable for the Ravens at eight and half points. Kansas City could surprise people though, but if I had to bet on this one, I would take the Ravens. However, I don't have to bet, and I might leave this game alone.

Houston is at home against the Jets with a rookie quarterback starting. Houston should have no trouble with the four and a half points.

The Giants are opening at home against division rival Washington, and that should be a cover at six and a half points. Take the NFC East home team whenever you can when it's less than a touchdown.

Arizona opens up against NFC West rival San Francisco. The Cardinals did make it to the Super Bowl and play well at home. Arizona by six and a half as the 49ers are not quite there yet.

Seattle and the Rams were the two worst teams last season. Seattle is at home. Seven and a half seems a bit high on this one, so I like the points and the Rams. Call me Crazy!

Green Bay opens up against Chicago at home, and Cutler looks pretty good. I like Chicago in this one, getting three and a half points.

On Monday night we have two games:

New England returns to glory against the Bills. Take the Patriots by a couple touchdowns. The line is 11.

San Diego has a lot of talent, and I would take them over the Raiders nine out of 10 times. Chargers by seven, easy.

There you have it, and good luck in your pools, pick contests, and bets.
