Khan Reportedly Taking Wrong Path to Potential Mayweather Fight

Tuesday, July 7

Mannix believes Khan is "talking himself out" of a potential fight with Mayweather. He continued to say his proactive vocal pursuit of Mayweather is the "worst possible approach", citing industry sources.

Khan spoke to Omar Al Raisi of the National on June 23 about potentially fighting Mayweather:

"

Everywhere I go fans ask me only one question: When are you fighting Floyd? I was at the Boxing Hall of Fame the other week and everyone kept asking me the same question.

There is nothing more from their camp, Floyd is clearly avoiding me; that’s the fight I want, I’ve proved myself in the welterweight division, so I don’t know what more to do.

"

Khan previously talked about a bout with Mayweather on June 4, claiming that interest in a bout between him and Mayweather is "massive" in an interview with FightHype.com:

Prior to Mayweather's win over Pacquiao, Khan made it publicly known he wanted to face Money, even giving him a deadline to make a decision, as reported by the Press Association (h/t Daily Mail). Mayweather's response was summarised by his suggestion Khan's "name holds no weight," per Matt Morlidge of the Mail Online.

The Bolton-born boxer has previously suggested his commitment to the Muslim festival of Ramadan—which ends on July 17—won't stop him from being prepared for a potential September fight, as reported by David Anderson of the Mirror.

Khan's record stands at 31-3, per BoxRec. Although Floyd Mayweather Sr. believes Khan would be an "easy fight" for his son, as reported by Dave Kidd in the Mirror, Khan's speed and fast hands could pose the ageing icon some problems.

Mayweather Jr. underlined his legendary defensive quality against Pacquiao and will be the heavy favourite no matter whom he faces. Khan appears hopeful—if unwilling to get excited—about a possible encounter.
