Most Dramatic Sports Moments of the Week
This past week in sports has been one of the craziest in recent memory, with incredible drama coming in different forms seemingly every night.
The NBA and NHL playoffs have been absolutely incredible, and featured some amazing games this past week. The NBA was particularly crazy with a number of last-second finishes.
Here are the most dramatic moments in sports from the past week.
Rangers Take Game 5 in OT
1 of 8The Washington Capitals and New York Rangers had played four hard-fought games as the series came to a 3-1 mark in favor of the nation's capital.
Game 5 would prove to be a major battle, with New York on the brink of elimination and white knuckling the doorframe of the exit.
Curtis Glencross put Washington ahead 1-0 roughly halfway through the third period, and they seemed destined for the win before Chris Kreider answered with a goal for New York roughly a minute and 40 seconds before the final horn sounded.
The Rangers pressed hard in overtime, and finally broke through with captain Ryan McDonagh finding the back of the net halfway through the extra period to give his team a huge win.
Rose Banks in Buzzer-Beater
2 of 8The Cleveland Cavaliers and Chicago Bulls found themselves locked up at 1-1 in their series heading into Chicago for Game 3.
Neither team could find an edge through the first three quarters, with Cleveland starting strong but Chicago chipping away behind Derrick Rose and Jimmy Butler, who combined for 50 points.
With just over three seconds remaining, the Bulls inbounded the ball to Rose, who ran around the three-point line and heaved a fadeaway jumper that somehow banked in as the buzzer sounded and sent the stadium into hysterics as Chicago took the series lead.
Pierce Banks in Buzzer-Beater
3 of 8Somehow, Derrick Rose's bank-shot buzzer-beater in Game 3 of the series wasn't the only one of its kind in these playoffs. Paul Pierce did literally the exact same thing the following night.
The series between the Washington Wizards and Atlanta Hawks was also tied up at one game apiece, and the two teams found themselves tied 101-101 with mere seconds remaining.
That's when Paul Pierce, who had been relatively quiet all night, took the ball and put up one his trademark step-back shots over not one, but two Hawks' defenders.
The shot somehow banked in as the buzzer sounded, and his teammates spilled onto the court as Washington celebrated like crazy.
Anaheim Wins Series in OT
4 of 8The Anaheim Ducks had mostly dominated their series with the Calgary Flames, jumping out to a 3-1 series lead.
But the Flames would not die easy, and made things as difficult as possible for the Ducks to advance to the Western Conference Finals.
Anaheim needed a third-period goal from Matt Beleskey just to force overtime, and then got absolutely stonewalled on a few early chances in the extra period.
But then Corey Perry found the rebound in a mess in front of the net, and put it home to send Calgary packing for good.
Horford Downs Wizards
5 of 8The Atlanta Hawks and Washington Wizards have treated everyone to a phenomenal series, and went into Game 5 tied up at two games apiece.
The two teams were neck-and-neck all night, with John Wall battling through a broken hand for Washington while Bradley Beal led the way.
Paul Pierce, as he has so many times before, came up with a ridiculously clutch three-pointer to put the Wizards ahead by a point with eight seconds on the clock.
But then the Hawks got a chance of their own when Al Horford grabbed a rebound and found himself right under the basket, unguarded, and put it in with about a second left to play to clinch the win for the Hawks.
Rangers Win Game 7 OT
6 of 8It is always special when a series gets to a Game 7, and even more awesome when that Game 7 goes into overtime.
That's exactly what the New York Rangers and Washington Capitals found themselves in on Wednesday night. The game was tied at 1-1 going into the third period, and neither side could find the back of the net as Brayden Holtby and Henrik Lundqvist dominated in net.
But then Derek Stepan found the puck right on his stick after a redirection, and put home an easy shot to send the home crowd into a frenzy and advance the Rangers into the Eastern Conference Finals.
LeBron Hits Buzzer-Beater
7 of 8After Derrick Rose's buzzer-beater in Game 3, the Cleveland Cavaliers desperately needed a big win to swing some momentum back to their side.
And who else but LeBron James would be able to provide that boost.
The Bulls dominated the third quarter, pulling ahead to a five-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. But the Cavs staged a furious comeback that led to it being all tied up with seconds on the clock.
The Cavs inbounded the ball with just 1.5 seconds on the clock, with LeBron taking the ball in the corner and immediately putting up a desperation shot that swished in right as the buzzer sounded to provide yet another thrilling ending to these NBA playoffs.
Rockets Comeback Saves Season
8 of 8The Los Angeles Clippers, up three games to two in their series against the Houston Rockets, seemed to have everything lined up perfectly on Thursday night.
Los Angeles jumped out to a big lead in the third quarter, and led by as many as 19 points in the second half. The Rockets were pushed, quite literally, to the brink.
Yet somehow, behind some incredible play by Corey Brewer and Josh Smith, the Rockets staged an unbelievable comeback and outscored the Clippers 40-15 in the fourth quarter to force an improbable Game 7.
