Real Madrid Transfer News: Cristiano Ronaldo, Iker Casillas 'Certain' to Leave

Nick AkermanMay 12, 2015

Former Real Madrid goalkeeper Agustin Rodriguez is "certain" Cristiano Ronaldo and Iker Casillas will leave the Bernabeu at the end of the season.

Speaking on Directo Marca, Rodriguez suggests information on both players will be printed before Los Blancos' Champions League semi-final second leg with Juventus on Wednesday night: "I am certain that Casillas and Cristiano Ronaldo are going to leave at the end of the season. We'll see as much in the news that comes out in Wednesday's papers."

While this sounds ominous, no further comments have been made.

Ronaldo is enjoying a typically prolific season despite his frustrations. He remains Europe's top domestic goalscorer, leading the way for the 2015 Golden Shoe with 42 strikes in La Liga so far. He is Madrid's main hope for overturning the 2-1 deficit against Juventus, but he's succumbed to multiple instances of frustration on the pitch in recent times.

He was visibly annoyed when Gareth Bale failed to set him up with a tap-in back in January, as reported by the Associated Press (h/t Telegraph Sport).

Similarly, he reacted with frustration when Bale netted against Levante, per James Whaling of the Mirror. He then did the same when Alvaro Arbeloa slid the ball home against Almeria, as reported by Metro.

Ronaldo also risked the wrath of Spanish league officials with his "calm down" celebration during March's Clasico, a match in which he is also said to have "touched his balls" in a provocative manner toward the referee, as reported by Marca.

After Madrid's inconsequential April loss to Schalke, Ronaldo also refused to speak to the media for the rest of the season, per Dermot Corrigan of ESPN FC.

Perhaps Rodriguez's comments will perk up the interest of Manchester United, who continue to be linked with bringing Ronaldo back to Old Trafford, as noted by Pete Jenson of MailOnline.

B/R UK's Thom Gibbs recently looked at whether Ronaldo would be a better signing than Gareth Bale for the Premier League club:

Casillas has suffered bouts of poor form across the last three seasons and is no longer the world-class goalkeeper he once was. He continues to be linked with a move to Arsenal but thinks he is "better off" in the Spanish capital, per El Chiringuito (h/t Anthony Hay of MailOnline). Casillas' performances have been booed by his own supporters this season, per Charlie Eccleshare of MailOnline.

Rodriguez began his Madrid career in 1975 and left the club in 1990, so it's likely he is well connected to the decision-makers.

It seems inevitable that reports of major change, including the future of boss Carlo Ancelotti, will be published if Madrid fail to qualify for the Champions League final on Wednesday. However, Rodriguez appears to have knowledge of internal happenings that will be made public before then. Moves for either player will grab headlines across the globe.

Right now, it seems we must wait and see what Wednesday's newspapers bring.
