Boateng, Sam Suspended by Schalke
Monday, May 11
The club's announcement reads as follows:
"Schalke sporting director Horst Heldt announced there would be consequences after Sunday's defeat away to 1. FC Koln and the first action has been taken: Kevin-Prince Boateng and Sidney Sam have been suspended indefinitely with immediate effect. Marco Hoger is suspended from training and first-team action up to and including Saturday, 16th May.
"

Exactly why the two players have received this punishment remains to be seen. Schalke are currently placed sixth in the Bundesliga and have no chance of making next season's Champions League. B/R UK's Andy Brassell posted some footage of Schalke's supporters after the defeat:
Midfielder Julian Draxler also noted the poor performance, per the club's Twitter feed:
Schalke have won just three of their last 15 Bundesliga matches, per Soccerway. Boateng is yet to score in 17 domestic appearances this campaign, averaging a rating of 6.61 from WhoScored.com. The Ghanaian has proven wasteful on the ball—completing 77.5 per cent of his passes, per WhoScored—while he has also failed to put in shifts defensively.

Boateng was sent home from the 2014 World Cup for disciplinary reasons, reported by David Hills of the Guardian. He played 59 minutes in the Cologne loss.
Sam has also failed to make a positive impression at the Gelsenkirchen club. He has made 11 Bundesliga appearances without scoring, averaging a rating of 6.71 on WhoScored. He hasn't played since the April 11 draw with Freiburg.
Right now, it appears both players will be available for transfers in the summer.
