Craziest Postgame Victory Quotes
Was Richard Sherman's rant the craziest postgame victory speech ever? Maybe. Or it could've been Kevin Garnett screaming "Anything is possible!" at the top of his lungs.
Sports are emotional, and victories can bring out the crazy in anybody. To be clear, crazy doesn’t necessarily mean bad. A crazy quote could be a really out-there comment or simply a statement made with outrageous enthusiasm.
Basically, something about these victory speeches made you stop and rewind the telecast thinking, "Wait, let me hear that again."
'I Was Listening to Tupac and I Forgot the Question'
1 of 14Oh, DeAndre Jordan. So hilarious.
Following a January victory over the Boston Celtics, the Los Angeles Clippers big man couldn’t concentrate on the postgame interview because the background music was just too good.
'Woo, Two in a Row!'
2 of 14Nick "Swaggy P" Young is becoming a staple in the conversation of ridiculous postgame interviews, but this one was particularly notable.
Young just couldn’t be left out as a reporter interviewed Jordan Hill after a Los Angeles Lakers victory in December. Swaggy jumped right in to praise his teammate and ask a few questions of his own.
'Thanks for Asking'
3 of 14"Thanks for asking," in and of itself, is not a crazy postgame quote. However, when it's pretty much the only thing you say, that's a little absurd.
Seattle Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch answered almost every postgame question after a 2014 victory with some iteration of the phrase. Ridiculous.
An honorable mention in this category goes to Oklahoma City Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook, who has taken a page out of the Beast Mode media playbook a time or two.
'He Did Good for an Old Geezer'
4 of 14Nothing like your wife hijacking your postgame interview. Apparently Gabrielle Union, wife of Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade, is not shy about sharing her opinions about his game.
After a December win against the New York Knicks, Wade was in the middle of a standard postgame interview when Union chimed in. Despite the Heat’s victory, she didn't seem thrilled with her husband's performance at the free-throw line.
'89...Bottom Line'
5 of 14In 2009, when Steve Smith was still with the Carolina Panthers, the wide receiver had 157 yards and a touchdown in a victory over the Minnesota Vikings. After the game, Smith told NBC's Andrea Kremer he had to "establish the rules and regulations of the game" for a young Vikings cornerback.
What did he mean? "89...Bottom line."
'I Wanna Rage Right Now'
6 of 14Personally, my favorite quote from MLB closer Brian Wilson is, "Papa's feeling pretty delicious right now." However, "I wanna rage right now" is a close second, and it came after a San Francisco Giants victory.
It was, in fact, the sentiment of the former Giants pitcher after his team won the 2010 World Series.
'He's Been on My Di...on My, Uh, Back'
7 of 14In 2013, Ohio State basketball player Amir Williams almost had a major "oops moment" during a postgame interview. He played well in a Buckeyes victory, and after the game, a reporter asked what Williams attributed his improved performance to.
Apparently, it was thanks to coach Thad Matta riding his, uh, back in practice.
'All It Takes to Be Successful Is an Attitude'
8 of 14East View High School running back Apollos Hester’s postgame victory speech was crazy in the best possible way. While some may have been taken aback by his enthusiasm, the Texas prep football star was certainly inspiring.
'I Called Game'
9 of 14Thirty-seven-year-old Paul Pierce banked in a buzzer-beater to seal a Game 3 playoff win for his Washington Wizards on Saturday. After the game, Chris Broussard of ESPN asked Pierce if he "called bank." To this, Pierce had an unusual, yet completely boss response: "I called game."
'Anybody Can Be Beat'
10 of 14In 2011, the New York Jets beat the New England Patriots to advance to the AFC Championship Game. Then-Jets linebacker Bart Scott unleashed on ESPN's Sal Paolantonio with a postgame rant for "all the nonbelievers." Paolantonio's reaction says it all.
'Acknowledge Me Please'
11 of 14Back when Ron Artest was still Ron Artest, his Los Angeles Lakers won the 2010 NBA championship in dramatic fashion—and he became a postgame press conference legend.
Artest was instrumental in the Game 7 victory over the Boston Celtics. His entire postgame interview is worth a watch, but highlights include his excitement over a Wheaties box and blaming his absentmindedness on champagne.
My personal favorite? When he shouted to the reporters "on their laptops" to acknowledge him please!
'Anything Is Possible!'
12 of 14This might have been one of the most outright displays of pure joy we've ever seen in sports. Kevin Garnett, after playing 12 title-less seasons in Minnesota, finally won an NBA championship with the Boston Celtics in 2008. His immediate reaction was crazy—crazy happy.
'I’m a Man, I’m 40!'
13 of 14People aren’t usually so ticked off after a win, but OSU head coach Mike Gundy is apparently an exception to the rule.
In 2007, Oklahoma State defeated Texas Tech 49-45. Instead of answering postgame questions, Gundy let loose on a reporter who (as Gundy perceived) had written an unflattering story about Cowboys quarterback Bobby Reid. The rant goes on for a while, but the best line occurs when Gundy suggests reporters attack him instead of college kids.
'Don't You Open Your Mouth About the Best'
14 of 14This unforgettable postgame interview was riddled with crazy quotes. After a Seattle Seahawks victory in the 2014 NFC Championship Game, cornerback Richard Sherman gave Fox Sports' Erin Andrews more than she bargained for. His epic rant was mostly directed at opposing San Francisco 49ers receiver Michael Crabtree, but the whole thing will live on in sports media lore.
