Victoria Cup 2015: Winner, Payouts and Order of Finish for Ascot Race
Speculative Bid emerged from the base of the pack to reign victorious in Saturday's Victoria Cup, defying the odds handed to him by an experienced field to claim top spot at Ascot.
The gelding outsider thundered home as Channel 4 Racing confirmed Lincoln, Hawkeyethenoo and Buckstay as second-, third- and fourth-place finishers, respectively:
There was less than a length separating Jamie Spencer and his ride from the rest of the field, but that shouldn't take away from what was a terrifically judged outing from the pair.

Speculative Bid was dealt a difficult hand to begin with and started the seven-furlong race slowly, but he showed his stamina when asked to enter another gear by Spencer later on.
As showed by Channel 4 Racing, the four-year-old had a lot of the field to get through before finding the space necessary for his break from the pack:
Spencer was actually still at the back of the order just two furlongs from the finish line, but it took him less than 200 metres to steer Speculative Bid into a more rabid response.
Trainer David Elsworth watched as his charge stayed the pace wonderfully to surpass those around him and mount an attack on the leaders from out of nowhere.
Runner-up Lincoln managed a similar stampede toward the end, but the stride of Speculative Bid could not be dislodged once his rhythm had been found.
Per Ascot's official Twitter account, Spencer was full of praise for his companion largely due to the competition seen in a field of 26 finishers:
Given the wealth of more experienced horses—Speculative Bid is five years younger than the oldest runner—the victor can be extremely pleased with the Victoria Cup triumph.
This was the horse's third victory in a row over seven furlongs, according to Sky Sports' official biography, telling Elsworth he may well have found a comfortable distance at which to continue testing him.

It's also the third time in succession that Spencer has been the one riding Speculative Bid to victory, with that pair having found a valuable cohesion, too, it seems.
This latest win may force Elsworth to rethink his plans for Speculative Bid in 2015, with the horse now holding a 100 percent record in all races competed in this year.
