Real Madrid Fixtures: La Liga Schedule, Table and Title Run-in for 2014-15

Mark BuckinghamMay 8, 2015

Real Madrid will be confident of winning their final three games in La Liga, but they will likely need a favour from city rivals Atletico to beat Barcelona to the title.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side are on a seven-game winning streak in the league, but saw their momentum checked by a 2-1 defeat by Juventus in the first leg of their Champions League semi-final.

They face Valencia on Saturday, but it is unclear if and when their final two games will go ahead. Due to a row with the government, the Spanish football federation has suspended indefinitely all domestic games from Saturday, 16 May onwards, per Reuters, via the Guardian.

Real Madrid vs. Valencia

The most difficult game of Real’s run-in comes against a team who won the reverse fixture 2-1 at the Mestalla at the start of 2015. Cristiano Ronaldo had put Real in front from the penalty spot, and he has scored in his last four appearances against Valencia, per Real’s official website.

Ronaldo is on 42 goals for the season as he battles with Lionel Messi to finish as top scorer, and he will need to be on top form again to help Real overcome a team chasing Champions League qualification.

Valencia are currently in fourth position, three points ahead of Sevilla, who were beaten 3-2 at home by Real last weekend.

Valencia have drawn on their last three visits to the Santiago Bernabeu, per Soccerbase. It’s clear they are going to pose a significant threat to Real’s need for three points.

Ancelotti is aware of the quality of Valencia, but he is feeling confident ahead of the game, per the club’s official website:

But Real are boosted by the return to training of Karim Benzema. He will supply Carlo Ancelotti with extra attacking impetus as Real chase an eighth consecutive win in La Liga.

Ancelotti would probably have preferred a slightly easier game than this, in between the Champions League semi-final tie with Juventus, as he is going to have to pick his strongest team against Valencia.

But a win will set Real up perfectly for their attempt to knock out Juventus.

Prediction: Real Madrid win

Espanyol vs. Real Madrid

If this game goes ahead, then Real will not be expecting much of a challenge from Barcelona’s city adversaries.

Real are unbeaten in their last 16 meetings with Espanyol in all competitions, per Soccerbase, and won 3-0 at home earlier this season. Gareth Bale scored in that win, and his form is one of the issues discussed in the video below:

Espanyol are sat in mid-table, although they are not yet out of the running for Europa League qualification as they are only two points behind seventh-placed Athletic Bilbao. But, if Bilbao beat Barcelona in the Copa del Rey final, then finishing seventh wouldn’t help Espanyol.

The outcome of Real’s tie with Juventus will have an impact on their morale. Failure to reach the Champions League final will be a blow and could offer Espanyol hope of causing an upset.

Prediction: Real Madrid win

Real Madrid vs. Getafe

A final-day date with another Madrid-based team is a great way to end the season, if it would mean Real are crowned champions.

Recent history suggests that Real will finish the campaign on a winning note. Real have scored four goals in each of the last four games between the two teams at the Bernabeu, per Soccerbase.

Real also won 3-0 at Getafe in the reverse fixture and will be meeting a team that are the third-lowest scorers in La Liga.

Getafe shocked Real 1-0 at the Bernabeu in February 2008, but it is hard to envisage a repeat. With Getafe currently six points clear of the relegation zone, they are likely to be safe by the final day and will already be in holiday mode.
