PSG vs. Guingamp: Team News, Predicted Lineups, Live Stream, TV Info

Jonathan JohnsonMay 7, 2015

Paris Saint-Germain host EA Guingamp at Parc des Princes on Friday night with a chance to open up a six-point gap at the top of Ligue 1 with just two games to play after this round.

Laurent Blanc’s men currently lead second-placed Olympique Lyonnais by three points, but a win for Les Parisiens would put Hubert Fournier’s side under a lot of pressure ahead of their trip to Stade Malherbe Caen on Saturday.

Preamble

Last weekend’s 2-0 win away at FC Nantes means that PSG have already dealt with their most challenging remaining fixture, so now they must avoid complacency in the final three games of the season to ensure that they lift their third consecutive Ligue 1 title.

Friday’s visitors are Jocelyn Gourvennec’s perennially underrated Guingamp side and despite the fact that they secured their top-flight safety with last week’s home win over Stade de Reims, they will not be easy opponents for Les Parisiens.

PSG are currently enjoying a strong run of end-of-season form as they look to edge out Lyon, and this game is the perfect opportunity for the capital club to put some serious pressure on Les Gones.

This is the last round of games in Le Championnat that will not be staggered over the weekend on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The two final rounds of games will see all matches played at the same time on the Saturday nights.

If PSG can open up a six-point gap over Lyon, the pressure could see Fournier’s men crumble away at Caen on Saturday. If that happens, Blanc and his players will have a second hand on their third straight Ligue 1 title.

Per PSG.fr, the hosts are without Thiago Motta, David Luiz and Jean-Christophe Bahebeck through injury. However, Salvatore Sirigu and Serge Aurier are back in action.

As for Guingamp, they are missing the suspended Jeremy Pied—scorer in the 1-0 win over Les Parisiens earlier this seasonand the recovering Dorian Leveque according to their squad list on PSG.fr (in French).

Player to Watch Per Side

After scoring the opener in last week’s trip to Nantes, Edinson Cavani has seven goals and an assist in his last five domestic outings. Even though he was otherwise largely wasteful in that win over Les Canaries, there is no doubt that he is the team’s man in form right now.

If the Uruguayan can find the back of the net against Guingamp to keep up his good recent run of scoring form, popular opinion at Parc des Princes will continue to brighten in favour of El Matador.

As for Guingamp, without Claudio Beauvue and Christophe Mandanne this season, Gourvennec’s men would not have 25 of their 38 goals this season. While the latter has been important though, chipping in with 10 of those 25, it is the former and his 15 goals and three assists that the Breton side could not have been without this campaign.

The 27-year-old has already confirmed that he will leave Stade du Roudourou this summer, but will be looking to go out with a bang. What better way than helping to secure a memorable three-point haul in the French capital?

If Beauvue and Gourvennec’s men manage that, it will be a double against PSG after beating them 1-0 at home back in December.

Key Battle

This is exactly the sort of match that Zlatan Ibrahimovic could easily dominate, although we saw him fail to do that when Guingamp humbled PSG 1-0 earlier in the season. If the Bretons are to stop the Swede from taking control of proceedings, captain Jeremy Sorbon will need to frustrate him physically.

Nantes’ Oswaldo Vizcarrondo failed to silence Zlatan last week, with the talismanic No. 10 providing a slick assist for Blaise Matuidi’s second goal in a routine 2-0 win at Stade de la Beaujoire. Even though he did not score on his return from suspension, Ibrahimovic was involved in both of his team’s goals and Guingamp need to find a way to keep him out.
