Mayweather vs. Pacquiao Scorecard: Full Stats, Analysis, Reaction from Megafight

Gianni VerschuerenMay 3, 2015

Saturday's megafight between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao lasted the full 12 rounds, with the undefeated pound-for-pound king eventually emerging as the clear winner by unanimous decision.

ESPN's David Kull shared an image of the official scorecards, with all three judges scoring the bout in favour of Mayweather by a wide margin:

The 38-year-old established his jab early and moved well around the ring, keeping the fight in the centre and using his reach advantage to slow down the explosive Pacquiao. Pac-Man found few answers, twice putting pressure on Money in the fourth and sixth rounds but ultimately falling well short of expectations.

Talking to reporters after the bout, Mayweather spoke respectfully of Pacquiao's skill as a boxer but felt he showed he was the better fighter:

Pacquiao disagreed with the decision:

The Filipino slugger never found a rhythm, struggling to establish his jab and get inside against the bigger Mayweather. He often lunged forward instead of fighting from a solid foundation, and even when he had Money pinned against the ropes, the latter had little difficulty escaping.

Mayweather looked dominant in the exchanges, finding great success with his right-hand lead and counterpunches. He was so superior, in fact, that a rematch seems unlikely:

Pacquiao's camp revealed the southpaw had suffered a shoulder injury several weeks before the bout, however, and blamed the defeat on that setback. As reported by The Score, he wasn't allowed shots to stop inflammation:

If Pacquiao's camp plays up the story of the shoulder injury, a rematch could be on the cards. But comments like these from Freddie Roach, Pac-Man's trainer, won't help convince Mayweather he should do all of this again, per Top Rank Boxing:

For all of the bravado from Roach and Co., Mayweather easily established himself as the better boxer in all aspects of the fight. According to CompuBox, Mayweather threw more punches, which was surprising, and landed a far higher percentage, per MailOnline Sport:

Even star fighter Carl Froch was in awe of what he saw:

Pac-Man, a volume puncher renowned for throwing lightning-fast combinations, was simply outboxed by the 38-year-old. The quick start everyone was expecting never happened, and he didn't show any real urgency in the championship rounds.

Once we started getting to the end of the fight, the result seemed inevitable. Mayweather was schooling Pacquiao, per ESPN Stats & Info:

Ultimately, the decision was an easy one for the judges. Shoulder injury or not, it's hard to imagine any scenario in which Pacquiao would have found a way through Mayweather's fantastic defence, which was better on Saturday than it has been in years.

Perhaps the fight would have had a different outcome five years ago, but we can only judge based on what we saw, not what could have been. And what we saw was the greatest fighter of our generation thoroughly dominating the man who was supposed to be his biggest challenger.
