IPL 2015 Results: Scores, Points Table, Fixture Schedule After May 3 Action
Mumbai Indians claimed a convincing 23-run victory over Kings XI Punjab in Mohali on Sunday to move within a point of the top four in the 2015 IPL.
A strong opening partnership set a base for Mumbai, and they posted a target of 173 for Kings XI in their 20 overs. The Punjabi outfit again looked poor with the bat and fell short, remaining firmly at the bottom of the table.
Rajasthan Royals moved to the top of the table in the day's later game, as they sauntered to an easy 14-run win over Delhi Daredevils. The Royals posted 189 for two first up and it was a score Delhi never looked like topping after a flurry of early wickets.

Ruthless Rahane Pushes Rajasthan to Victory Against Delhi
3 of 4
Rajasthan Royals (189/2) beat Delhi Daredevils (175/7) by 14 runs
Rajasthan Royals seemed set for some early pressure from the star-studded Delhi Devils bowling attack after losing the toss and being put into bat. But Ajinkya Rahane was sensational at the top of the order for the hosts, carrying his bat from beginning to end of the innings.
The India international smashed one of the finest knocks of the tournament, making an unbeaten 91 from just 54 balls during his time at the crease.
Despite losing Shane Watson for just 21, the India star was a serene influence for Rajasthan. He was duly supported by an excellent effort from Karun Nair, as the 23-year-old plundered a classy 61 from just 38 balls.
Nair was dismissed in the 19th over, but by this point the damage had been done. With Rahane still in situ, the Royals coasted to a final score of 189 for two from their 20 overs, posing Delhi with a very difficult chase.
For those backing the Delhi outfit, things got off to an extremely poor start. Openers Mayank Agarwal (11) and Shreyas Iyer (9) were both gone inside the first five overs, as the Rajasthan bowling attack strangled the run-rate.
The Daredevils boast some dangerous players down the order however, as was illustrated by a diligent innings of 56 from 39 balls from captain JP Duminy. But the skipper was the sole bright spark in the Delhi effort, as the fireworks they so desperately required failed to materialise from the likes of Yuvraj Singh (22) and Angelo Mathews (16).
When Duminy eventually fell in the 18thover, any slim chances of a late flourish from Delhi were extinguished. Rajasthan saw out the remaining overs with ease, restricting their opponents to 175 for seven from their 20 overs.
While it was an extremely comfortable day for Watson’s men, this was a victory of huge significance. After triumphing in their opening five games, Rajasthan have failed to win any of their last five matches; for those backing the Royals, hopefully this win will spark the kind of scintillating form that was so prevalent earlier in the campaign.
Rahane playing with such a swagger will also help. He’s been superb in this competition so far, leading Rajasthan from the front with a wonderful poise. Like his team, Rahane’s form has been a little off as of late, but this was an emphatic indication that class is permanent.
Mumbai Indians Inflict Another Defeat on Struggling Kings XI Punjab
4 of 4
Mumbai Indians (172/3) bt. Kings XI Punjab (149/7) by 23 runs
Kings XI Punjab came into Sunday's match in Mohali looking to avoid a fourth consecutive defeat.
While a victory would see Kings XI tie on points with Mumbai, an Indians win would see the Punjab outfit cut adrift at the bottom of the league standings by four points.
Mumbai won the toss and elected to bat first. They motored along in the early stages as both their opening batsmen fired.
They hit 51 runs in the first six overs, and Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel both reached the half-century mark as Kings XI struggled with the ball.
Parthiv finally fell for 59 from 36 balls. He was dismissed by Karanveer Singh to leave Mumbai on 111-1.
Simmons went on to score 71 before falling to Anureet Singh, the West Indian once again bagging big runs for the Indians, per cricket writer Freddie Wilde:
"Lendl Simmons, all scores for #MI: 71, 38, 51, 15, 59, 5, 13 79*, 7, 67, 12 35, 100*, 62, 12, 68, 38. #IPL #KXIPvMI #KXIP

Mumbai's scoring rate slowed somewhat in the later overs, and they fell some way short of the 200 mark, a realistic target after a fine start.
However, a score of 172 for three from their 20 overs certainly looked defendable, especially against an out-of-form Kings XI.

Virender Sehwag fell early in the chase, the veteran caught by Pollard off the bowling of Lasith Malinga in the second over.
Murali Vijay made a handy contribution from the opening spot, but Harbhajan Singh sent him back to the pavilion for 39 in the 12th over as the required run-rate crept up.
Glenn Maxwell failed once again as he went for 12, caught while attempting the reverse sweep.

David Miller's 37-ball 43 was exactly what Kings XI needed to move the rate along, but when he fell in the 17th over to Malinga, the target was still some way off.
Skipper George Bailey and Wriddhiman Saha were charged with bringing their team home to victory, but with 39 needed from the last 10 deliveries, it looked a very difficult task.
Bailey was run out with eight balls to go, effectively ending the Punjabi challenge. Axar Patel fell the very next ball in the same fashion, as Kings XI finished with a whimper, eventually losing by 23 runs.
Mumbai's next fixture is against Delhi Daredevils on Tuesday, while Kings XI need to get out of their current slump when they meet Royal Challengers Bangalore on Wednesday.
