Kentucky Derby Results 2015: Finishing Times, Payouts List and Video Highlights
American Pharoah sealed the first leg of the Triple Crown on Saturday with an impressive victory in the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs.
Taking the lead from Dortmund and Firing Line as the horses rounded the final turn, American Pharoah held strong on the straight to eventually win by a length.
Hotly tipped ahead of the 2015 Run for the Roses, the Bob Baffert-trained colt lived up to the hype as he narrowly edged out a very strong field.
Here is the race in full:
Jockey Victor Espinoza sealed a second consecutive Derby victory aboard Pharoah—he won on California Chrome in 2014—while it was Baffert's fourth career Roses triumph.
Baffert also trained third-placed finisher Dortmund, while Firing Line battled well for an excellent second spot.

Firing Line pushed American Pharoah all the way to the line, a tremendous effort from the Simon Callaghan-trained horse, with 52-year-old Gary Stevens jockeying.
Dortmund lost his undefeated record having won his first six career races, but Pharoah proved simply too good in the end as many—including the bookies—had predicted.
Indeed, for the third year running, the favourite heading into the race has come out on top, per WSJ Sports:
It was far from easy though for American Pharoah, and a very strong field provided a record Churchill Downs crowd of 170,513 with a thrilling spectacle, per Gary Mihoces of USA Today.
Thoughts now turn, inevitably, to the second leg of the Triple Crown. The Preakness Stakes is less than two weeks away, and Pharoah is being tipped for victory in Baltimore, with the latest odds putting him at 2-3, per OddsShark.com.
He will certainly be the favourite to take the second leg of the Triple Crown assuming all goes well between now and May 16, but Firing Line should prove a tough challenger once again, per racing writer Doug Salvatore:
Espinoza came very close to Triple Crown glory last year with California Chrome, but he fell short at the Belmont Stakes, as so many have done since 1978.
Affirmed was the last Triple Crown winner 37 years ago, and it has often been questioned since whether another will ever be forthcoming.
American Pharoah certainly is capable of breaking the drought, but it is too early to make such bold predictions.
First things first. Pharoah needs to win the Preakness Stakes. If he does, the anticipation ahead of the Belmont Stakes will be huge, with the prospect of history being made.
