Kentucky Derby 2015 Winner: Bob Baffert's American Pharoah Celebration, Reaction

Mike ChiariMay 2, 2015

Trainer Bob Baffert had two great shots at winning the 2015 Kentucky Derby in the form of Dortmund and American Pharoah, and the latter came through by sprinting past both Firing Line and Dortmund to win the 141st Run For the Roses.

For the 62-year-old trainer, it was the fourth Derby victory of his career, which moved him even closer to the top of the all-time list, according to ESPN Stats & Info:

Baffert has been among the top trainers in the sport for quite some time, and American Pharoah's dominance cemented that fact Saturday. Per Jonathan Lintner of The Courier-Journal, though, he believes the horse deserves the praise:

Even with that mindset, Baffert didn't hold back when it came to celebrating one of the biggest victories of his career as a trainer.

As seen in this photo courtesy of America's Best Racing, Baffert and everyone else responsible for the win, including jockey Victor Espinoza, took part in a champagne shower:

While Baffert was undoubtedly happy, even he couldn't match the level of excitement that his 11-year-old son, Bode, brought to the table, as evidenced by this Vine from The Cauldron:

After witnessing Baffert, his children and his wife taking in the winning atmosphere, legendary ESPN college basketball analyst Dick Vitale felt great as well:

On the heels of American Pharoah's transcendent performance, Baffert, Espinoza and owner Ahmed Zayat fielded plenty of questions about the Kentucky Derby as well as the Triple Crown.

Espinoza had nothing but good things to say about Baffert, with whom he has cultivated a successful relationship over the years:

Baffert commented further on American Pharoah, and despite the fact that he managed to come from behind in impressive fashion against two excellent horses, the trainer believes he has yet to truly hit his stride:

That is an exciting thought for horse racing fans who are hoping to see the first Triple Crown winner since Affirmed pulled off the feat in 1978.

American Pharoah has a long road ahead of him before he can be called a Triple Crown horse, but Baffert has every intention of entering him into the Preakness Stakes:

Many great horses have come close to winning the Triple Crown only to fall short over the years, and while American Pharoah could well join that long list of close calls, he may have the talent to end the drought.

One thing that may give him a leg up on every other Kentucky Derby winner since 1978, though, is the fact that he is surrounded by so many elite people in the sport, including Espinoza and Baffert.

As elated as Baffert was following the Kentucky Derby, one can only imagine what the celebration will be like if American Pharoah takes the next two legs of the Triple Crown.

Saturday's win was massive for Baffert, but it may only be the precursor to an even bigger accomplishment.
