Floyd Mayweather's Next Fight Should Be Against Kell Brook or Keith Thurman
With Floyd Mayweather having conquered Manny Pacquiao and with just one fight left on his contract with Showtime, the pound-for-pound king should look at taking on an undefeated young welterweight in his next bout.
Per Top Rank Boxing, Mayweather said after Saturday's easy unanimous-decision win over Pacquiao that he planned on vacating all of his world titles on Monday. That makes it hard to imagine him facing an up-and-coming young champion, but we can always hope.
Kell Brook is a 28-year-old, undefeated fighter from the United Kingdom. He's also the reigning IBF welterweight champion. He's expressed interest in facing the winner of Mayweather-Pacquiao on a few occasions.

When asked recently if he'd like to face the winner, Brook told Sky Sports:
"Absolutely. I have to take care of Frankie Gavin on 30 May and we have got a fight pencilled in for August but, if the fight comes for September, I would grab it with both hands, a unification fight with the winner. They are getting on, Mayweather and Pacquiao, and I would love to lock horns with them before their time is out.
"
The fight scheduled with Gavin later this month that is no easy task. However, should Brook emerge victorious, he would be a formidable opponent for Mayweather.
Brook is strong and he possesses a good jab. He's also powerful enough to make Mayweather respect his punch. In addition to the in-ring qualities, Brook has something else Mayweather's camp may be interested in: a large following.
In the UK, Brook is one of the sport's biggest stars. If Mayweather could allow himself to be pried away from the MGM Grand, he and Brook could possibly sell out Wembley Stadium.
Keith "One-Time" Thurman is another potential foe for Mayweather to consider. Thurman has looked amazing through his first 25 fights. He too has a perfect record, with 21 wins by knockout.
Thurman's personality is a positive, as it would potentially relate to marketing the fight. He gives a great interview and could easily have a career as an analyst when he's done in the ring. He also understands promotion. Thurman has called out Mayweather and other big-name stars over the last two years, but he's gone mostly avoided.
He currently holds the WBA's secondary welterweight title, but it's clear from this interview with Showtime's Brian Custer that Thurman wants to "burn money."
The promotion for Mayweather-Thurman could be entertaining. It would launch Thurman's career, and he is one of the fighters in line to carry the torch once Mayweather and Pacquiao have retired.
We'll see if Mayweather gives Brook or Thurman what could be the final shot to blemish his record.
