2015 Kentucky Derby Field: Post Positions and Betting Info for Churchill Downs
Saturday, one horse will rise above the rest at Churchill Downs in what figures to be one of the most impressive victories in recent memory.
It's a lock, really, because the Kentucky Derby hasn't seen this deep of a field for quite a long time. Case in point, legendary trainer Bob Baffert bringing perhaps his best one-two punch ever in his prestigious career thanks to American Pharoah and Dortmund.
Todd Pletcher and a host of others are right behind, though, and there's no telling how each favorite will perform in a stacked field bigger than they are used to running in—and no telling which dark horse might have enough juice to pull off an upset.
It makes for a rough betting environment, but one also filled with opportunity. Here's a look at the updated field with some advice after the jump.

Longer Shot Worth a Look: Frosted

It's always wise to pay attention to where jockey Joel Rosario will ride at Churchill Downs, especially after his 2013 triumph aboard Orb and a 2014 Belmont Stakes victory atop Tonalist.
Trainer Kiaran McLaughlin requested Rosario's services with three-year-old colt Frosted, who looked like a surefire Kentucky Derby favorite before an odd fourth-place finish at the Fountain of Youth Stakes earlier this year.
The early returns proved outstanding, as the two blazed to a smooth win at the Wood Memorial Stakes in early April. Recent reviews make things sound great, too, per Steve Haskin of Blood-Horse:
There's an inherent risk with Frosted due to the odd showing in February, but it seems much has changed since.
Bettors can do far worse than a horse with all of the upside in the world and a talent like Rosario up top.
Underdog to Bet: Firing Line

There's too much to like to not throw down a bet on Firing Line.
This includes a solid payout, of course. More important, though, is the presence of jockey Gary Stevens up top. He's a legend in the sport inducted into the Hall of Fame all the way back in 1997 with plenty of Triple Crown race victories on his resume.
The Sporting Scene sums up Stevens' resume best:
"Gary Stevens has thirty-six years of racing experience, three Kentucky Derby wins, and now, finally, two good knees. http://t.co/q51ma2gPtX
— The Sporting Scene (@SportingScene) May 2, 2015"
Firing Line offers a lot to like, too. He finished a close second to Dortmund at the Robert B. Lewis Stakes earlier in the year, took a nice layoff and then blew away the field at the Sunland Derby in March.
The three-year-old colt ends another lengthy layoff Saturday and will have fresh legs and explosiveness to combat the deep field.
With Stevens up top and Firing Line ready to go after plenty of rest, the two might pull off the unthinkable and make brave bettors quite happy.
Eventual Winner: Dortmund
Baffert's Dortmund, not American Pharoah, looks like the best bet of all Saturday evening.
American Pharoah is the best in field, no question, but he's in a horrific spot post-wise, which is something even jockey Victor Espinoza may not be able to overcome.
Dortmund fared much better when it comes to posts and is the second-best horse in the field. He also features a strong jockey in Martin Garcia, who KentuckyDerby.com describes as "Baffert's first call rider."
Even Baffert admits American Pharoah and Dortmund are closer than most would think, per Gary Mihoces of USA Today. "We know that Pharoah is a brilliant horse," Baffert said. "But they're both good horses. They're pretty close."
As a winner of six and sired by Big Brown, it's tough to doubt Dortmund out of such a favorable position. Look for Garcia to guide a late push, which steals the win from the field.
