Mayweather vs. Pacquiao Weigh-In: Updated Odds After Pre-Fight Results
The fight of the century has finally arrived. On Saturday evening at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Manny Pacquiao will meet in the ring.
Friday saw the weigh-in take place in front of 11,500 fans, per BBC Sport's Ben Dirs, with Mayweather clocking in slightly heavier than his Filipino opponent, per SportsCenter:
The American is the favourite to win the fight, his 47-0 record a mark of his prolonged excellence, but Pacquiao is sure to be Mayweather's toughest opponent for some time, if not ever.
Here are the latest odds for the fight, courtesy of OddsShark.com:
| Mayweather win | 10-21 |
| Pacquiao win | 17-10 |
| Draw | 10-1 |
There are a handful of titles on the line on Saturday: Mayweather's WBA (Super) and WBC belts along with Pac-Man's WBO welterweight title.
However, there is more at stake than that, with the history books firmly on everyone's minds. The pair are widely regarded as the world's best boxers, and the winner of Saturday's fight will likely go down in history as the current era's greatest.
Although Pacquiao has endured defeat on five occasions—his record currently stands at 57-5-2—he has always looked like the most likely man to blot Mayweather's undefeated record.
All will be revealed when the pair meet, with the fight expected to be a blockbuster occasion given the pair's contrasting styles—Pacquiao the aggressor versus Mayweather the defender.
At the weigh-in, they certainly seemed to be in different frames of mind, per CBS Sports:
The odds point towards a Mayweather victory, and indeed, the smart money seems to suggest that the fight will go the distance, with the 38-year-old winning by decision, per boxing writer Eric Raskin:
Neither fighter has won by a knockout for some time, with Mayweather's last coming in 2011 and Pacquiao's in 2009.
The hype has been quite astonishing. Many thought that the pair would never meet after talks broke down in 2010, but five years on and the fight is just hours away.
Pacquiao will be desperate to upset the odds, and it will be interesting to see how the 36-year-old approaches the fight tactically. An all-out attacking approach would be exciting but dangerous, as it would see Pacquiao left vulnerable to the superbly accurate Mayweather.
A slightly more measured approach is likely from Pacquiao, while Mayweather will surely back his defensive capabilities early on and look to land key blows as the fight progresses.
With the weigh-in out of the way, the fight is all that remains for these two generation-defining fighters on what should be a thrilling night in Las Vegas.
