King J Gives HBO's Mayweather Marquez 24/7 Part 1 an A
Mr. "HBO 24/7" himself is back! Yes Floyd Mayweather Jr. returned tonight in the first installment of HBO's Mayweather Marquez 24/7.
The episode starts off at a skating rink where Mayweather is skating with his daughter and the song "Return of the Mack" is playing in the background.
The narrator explains about the recent reports that Floyd was allegedly involved with a shooting that had taken place a week ago at that same skating rink.
Floyd quickly denies any involvement and hopes that the guilty party is brought to justice soon.
We also learn that Floyd is dealing with many other distractions such as his uncle being charged with assault on a female tenant to one of his properties as well as his highly publicized rib injury.
Floyd insists his rib is fully healed but continues to wear a safe guard pad around his ribs while he trains. Mayweather also clarifies that the rumors that he owes 6 million in back taxes to the IRS are all false.
Mayweather shows off his brand new mansion and drives around in his Rolls Royce without a care in the world, but to me more importantly we finally get to see a more real humble side of Floyd when the cameras for once follow him into his charity work with disadvantaged youth and feeding the homeless of Las Vegas.
Marquez, on the other hand, makes his debut in the award winning reality series and we get to finally see his hometown in Mexico City.
We learn that there were gang fights and killings that took place in Juan's neighborhood every day and that he grew up with a family of eight kids in a one-bedroom home.
Juan celebrates his 36th birthday with his family and we are introduced to his father for the first time who was also a boxer as well.
Marquez senior would teach his kids to box at a very early age having them hit a pillow as their target and often having to replace the pillow once it was completely beaten out of shape.
Juan's legendary trainer Nacho Beristain has trained 16 world champions over the course of 20 years but considers Juan to be his best champion.
Floyd and his father Floyd Senior have finally seem to over come their long standing feud and are seen training together and even hanging out and playing a game of dice at home.
Floyd Senior also clarifies that reports of him criticizing Roger's training methods were taken out of context and misunderstood.
This may open up a brand new significant distraction in the Mayweather camp if Roger and Floyd senior are going to start butting heads already.
I personally loved this episode for we finally get to see a more authentic true reality side of Floyd with his charitable work.
He definitely seems to be a lot more humble this time around but it makes you wonder if this is the new Floyd or will the old Money May smack-talking swagger start kicking in full gear in the next episodes?
Juan Manuel Marquez has been my favorite Mexican fighter and boxer period for quite some time. I am happy that we finally get to see him get his due with the exposure and recognition that only HBO 24/7 can provide for a fighter.
For these reasons alone I give this episode a grade of an A. Lets hope the rest of the episodes can continue to be as good as this one and it seems like they will be onto a great start with the next episode showing Marquez training way high up in the mountains of Mexico City.
