A World-Class Affair

As noted by the official Champions Cup Twitter account, the clash between Toulon and Clermont will have a truly international flavour:

Between them, the finalists boast an incredible 52 international players, via European Professional Club Rugby, from their combined 64 players.

Toulon in particular boast a significant amount of star power, including Bryan Habana, capped 106 times for South Africa, as well as Six Nations stars Martin Castrogiovanni and Leigh Halfpenny.

The match is the fifth all-French final, and Toulon's fifth final in six seasons.

Toulon, who have matched Toulouse's record of three consecutive finals, can go one step further and set a new record should they win the competition for what would be for the third time in a row.

Clermont are no strangers to the big occasion either, having appeared in four European finals and won two.

Clermont edged their way into the final with a narrow 13-9 victory over Saracens:

Clermont's Jamie Cudmore believes Clermont will have the added motivation of gaining revenge for the defeat in 2013. Per Paul Rees of the Guardian, he said:

"

It was frustrating to lose to them in the 2013 final having dominated much of the match and it has been tough watching them doing so well in Europe.

We have made winning Europe a priority and after it we can focus on the Top 14.

...

We will be putting everything on the line against Toulon.

"

Toulon's Bakkies Botha will be just as determined to win, per Rees: "

"

Playing in finals is always exciting and something to relish. We have developed a big rivalry with Clermont in recent years and they are right up there as a side. It will be a massive clash and we will be up for it.

"

Key Player: Leigh Halfpenny

"Mr Consistency" himself has been kicking at his usual, incredible standard this season.

Per Jack D'Arcy of RugbyWorld.com, the Welshman has scored from 87.8 percent of his 41 shots on goal this tournament, racking up a phenomenal total of 91 points.

Halfpenny's kicking proved the decisive factor in Toulon's 25-20 semi-final victory over Leinster:

With someone so ruthlessly accurate on their side, Toulon will remain a constant threat to Clermont throughout the game.

Key Player: Nick Abendanon

Clermont full-back Nick Abendanon is on the shortlist for European Player of the Year, and it's easy to see why.

The 28-year-old is leading the way in a number of important stats in the Champions Cup this season, having beaten 30 defenders and gained 761 metres, as well as making an impressive 11 clean breaks.

Abendanon has swerved and glided past countless defences this year and played a significant role in Clermont's clash with Saracens in January:

On current form, Toulon's back row will have their work cut out for them as Abendanon causes chaos with his purposeful running.

With little between the two sides, Halfpenny and Abendanon are set to play key roles in the final, and whoever performs better will likely be celebrating at the final whistle.
