2015 NFL Draft Grades: Team-by-Team List of Scores and Overall Round 1 Analysis

Brian MaziqueApr 30, 2015

There were no major surprises on the first day of the 2015 NFL draft. As expected, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made Jameis Winston the No. 1 pick. Despite all of the pre-draft trade talk, the Tennessee Titans held on to the second pick and used it to draft Marcus Mariota.

It's hard to argue with either team's selection. That's especially the case for the Titans. Finding a quarterback who can also be the face of your franchise is rare. Mariota has the athleticism, work ethic, intelligence and leadership skills to become a superstar.

It may take him a couple of seasons to learn the pro game, but barring injury, he'll be the best quarterback from this draft.

Here's a real-time tracker that lists every selection from the entire draft.

Best Selections

Vic Beasley, No. 8, Atlanta Falcons

The Atlanta Falcons may have landed the best defensive player in the draft at No. 8. I'd say that's value. Beasley is 6'3", 246 pounds and he ran the fastest 40-yard dash of any player at his position at 4.53.

Falcons fans are just hoping he lives up to his Madden Ultimate Team rating.

He also produced the type of on-field production that supports what he did at the NFL Scouting Combine. Beasley had 12 sacks in 2014 for the Clemson Tigers and looks to be the best pure pass-rusher from the draft.

The Falcons have needed an impact edge-rusher for the last three seasons. They have finally found their guy in Beasley.

Amari Cooper, No. 4, Oakland Raiders

It's hard to evaluate a young quarterback if he doesn't have weapons in the passing game. The Oakland Raiders may not be sure if Derek Carr is their quarterback of the future, but they got the best wide receiver in the draft to help them make their decision.

Cooper was the most NFL-ready offensive player available and he could become Carr's best friend this fall.

Cooper is a smooth route-runner with great hands and solid character. The Raiders offense is beginning to look as if it may have some teeth in 2015.

Worst Selections and Moves

Kevin White, No. 7, Chicago Bears

Don't get me wrong, Kevin White could be an excellent receiver, but in a draft that has extraordinary depth at wide receiver, the Bears could have gotten a solid player at that position in the second round. According to the Bears' official Twitter account, White will wear No. 13. Bears fans are hoping that's a lucky 13.

Beasley was still on the board and with the Chicago Bears moving to a 3-4 scheme this season, he seemed like a better pick. The Bears did sign Pernell McPhee, but you can never have enough dynamic pass-rushers.

Beasley has star potential, and he would have been a better pick for the Bears.

Phillip Dorsett, No. 29, Indianapolis Colts

I love Phillip Dorsett's speed, but it's hard not to see the similarities between him and T.Y. Hilton. Why would the Indianapolis Colts neglect a more obvious position of need like offensive tackle?

Former Pittsburgh Panther T.J. Clemmings was still on the board, but the Colts elected to add a player to a position where the team is already somewhat strong. This was probably the worst pick of the first round.
