Brad Hogg Takes Key Wickets
Australian Brad Hogg put in an incredibly controlled performance on Thursday as he took four of the key wickets as Chennai reached 165.
It was a mightily impressive spell from the 44-year-old, showing that there is value in both youth and experience in T20 IPL cricket:
"Yesterday 17 year-old Sarfaraz Khan scored a 21-ball 45*, today 44 year-old Brad Hogg has taken 4-29. #LoveCricket #IPL #KKRvCSK #KKR #CSK
— Freddie Wilde (@fwildecricket) April 30, 2015"
He trapped Brendon McCullum lbw when the opener was in full flow, the New Zealander returning to the pavilion having smashed 32 from 12 balls.
Faf du Plessis was Hogg's next victim, stumped for an 11-ball 20 by Robin Uthappa to leave CSK on 69-4.
Hogg then picked up two vital wickets in the 19th over with some excellent slower bowling. First Ravindra Jadeja was caught by Pat Cummins for 24 before Pawan Negi was bowled after an entertaining 13-ball 27.
Hogg's late wickets were vital in slowing down the scoring rate, and it was overall a vintage performance from the veteran Aussie.
Robin Uthappa Sees KKR Home
Robin Uthappa's was a textbook innings from an opener in a T20 match. He made a decent start with Guatam Gambhir, the pair making 33 together before the skipper fell.
Manish Pandey and Suryakumar Yadav followed soon after, but Uthappa never looked panicked, and he simply went along at his own pace, playing some beautifully timed shots as the score ticked along.
He was joined by Andre Russell, and ably assisted by the West Indian who played his more aggressive brand of cricket to keep the scoreboard pressure off.
With wickets in hand and the required run-rate hardly daunting, KKR cruised home to win by seven wickets, Uthappa's 58-ball 80 the key anchoring knock to see his side home.
