Twitter Reacts to Jordan Henderson's New £100,000-a-Week Liverpool Contract
There were celebrations at Melwood on Thursday as captain-in-waiting Jordan Henderson put pen to paper on a new five-year contract.
The 24-year-old, who was signed from Sunderland in 2011 for around £20 million, will now earn a basic £100,000 a week, having already rejected a deal that would have given him £80,000 every seven days, according to Andy Hunter of The Guardian.

The general consensus among Liverpool fans on Twitter was that Hendo's contract re-up is great news for the club:
"Its great news that Henderson is staying. Who cares about the £100k. #LFC spend millions more on others who contribute nothing to the club.
— Sherlin_LFC (@Sherlin_LFC) April 23, 2015"
"Good to get Henderson tied down. £100k, like it or not (personally not bothered), is the the going rate for a top 6 PL starter thesedays.

There were, however, plenty of folks who were keen to pooh-pooh the new financial arrangements:
"Henderson, a poor man's Aaron Ramsey. He ain't t poor anymore though.

Inevitably, comparisons were drawn with Raheem Sterling, who recently rebuffed a contract offer that would have earned him the same amount of money:
"Henderson showing Sterling what it means to play for a top club #lfc

"Sorry but you can't say Henderson deserves £100k and Sterling doesn't deserve £120-130k based on the fact Jordan is our next captain.

The folks at Eurosport, meanwhile, discovered Liverpool's answer to Real Madrid players giving a topless thumbs up: the Melwood Lean...
The Independent, on the other hand, pointed out the fact that Henderson might have access to the Eternal Fountain of Youth:
"Jordan Henderson: Spot the difference! Liverpool midfielder hasn't aged a day since switching to Anfield http://t.co/8vRhRDy7Cv
— Harvey Travers (@Harve96) April 23, 2015"
And Bleacher Report's own social media team made the astute observation that Hendo actually signed a real contract, unlike some of his teammates:
Some fans welcomed Henderson's new contract, while some despaired the going rate of English midfielders in the Premier League. Much like the ending of The Graduate, Henderson's situation is an exciting opinion-divider. And much like the ending of The Graduate, this article is going to play out with some Simon & Garfunkel...
