Twitter Reacts as Bayern Munich Destroy Porto in Champions League

Ryan BaileyApr 21, 2015

Before last week's shocking 3-1 defeat at Porto, a seemingly unstoppable Bayern Munich side were favourites to win the Champions League.

Going into the second leg at the Allianz Arena, Die Roten knew that they had lost every attempt to come back from a two-goal deficit in UEFA competitions, as per The Guardian.

They were undoubtedly haunted by the ghost of the 1987 final, in which the Portuguese side came from behind to deny them their fourth European Cup.

However, it soon became apparent that the German giants were not in the mood to entertain Porto's bus parking, nor their thoughts of qualification. Bayern came out swinging from kick-off and within 10 minutes had a wonderful chance to open the scoring when Robert Lewandowski hit the post. By the 27th minute, Porto fans started to cancel their plans to watch the semi-final draw on Saturday as Bayern added a third—an absolutely world-class move that resulted in Lewandowski scoring the third headed goal of the evening...

A convincing second-leg comeback started to turn into a rout by the 36th minute, when Thomas Muller's deflected shot cruelly beat Fabiano in the Porto goal to make it 4-0...

Five minutes before Porto went for a long lie down at half-time, Robert Lewandowski made it five...

At half-time, the memes continued to pour in...

Inevitably, comparisons were made between Bayern's performance and that of the German national team when they tore apart the World Cup hosts last summer...

The Selecao managed to scramble in a consolation when they were decimated in Brasilia, and Bayern appeared to allow a similar concession to their victims when they took their foot off the gas in the second half and allowed Jackson Martinez to score...

The occasion soon became so intense that Pep Guardiola's trousers couldn't contain him...

Shortly after Ivan Marcano was shown a red card for a bizarre tackle on Thiago, Bayern realised they hadn't scored in 48 minutes, so Xabi Alonso sent one of his trademark free kicks into the back of the net...

The match eventually finished 6-1 (7-4 on aggregate), with Bayern proving to the world that they can still turn on the magic even if players like Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery are watching from the stands...
