Tottenham Transfer News: Kevin Wimmer Deal 'Agreed' Despite Arsenal Rumours
Tottenham have "agreed" a £4 million deal to sign Cologne centre-back Kevin Wimmer at the end of the season, according to Greg Stobart of Goal.com.
Although Stobart admits "no contracts have been signed," he indicated the player "will sign" for Spurs, despite alleged interest from Arsenal. Wimmer told German radio station 1Live (h/t Stobart) that "nothing is fixed" and that "both teams have agreed that we should first concentrate on the league—and then we'll see."
The player previously admitted "it would be a dream to move to a top club like Tottenham," per Stobart. Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino has a range of centre-back options in his squad—Jan Vertonghen, Eric Dier, Federico Fazio, Younes Kaboul and Vlad Chiriches among them—but the north London side's defence continues to sour results.

Wimmer is a 22-year-old Austrian international who has established himself in the Bundesliga since moving from LASK Linz in 2012. He averages 1.2 tackles, 1.4 interceptions, 6.6 clearances and 0.9 fouls per match across 28 league appearances this season, per WhoScored.com.
He was recently sent off during the 4-2 loss to Eintracht Frankfurt but remains key in Cologne's fight against relegation.
Karol Csonto, the player's agent, previously told PLBOLD (h/t Ryan Grant of Goal) that "there are two other Premier League clubs who are in negotiations" for the player's signature.

Pochettino desperately needs greater experience on his defensive line. With Kaboul seemingly out of favour and Michael Dawson offloaded to Hull City, there's a flimsiness about Spurs' base. Full-backs Danny Rose and Kyle Walker have a tendency to become stranded up the pitch when possession breaks down, straining Pochettino's middle two when the opposition counters.
Spurs' 0-0 draw with Burnley can be marked as their only clean sheet in 13 matches across all competitions, per Soccerway. The team conceded sloppy goals against Aston Villa and Newcastle United in their last two outings, signalling investment is needed if Champions League football is to be attained in the future.
Despite looking like candidates for a spot among Europe's elite earlier in the season, Spurs are seven points behind fourth-placed Manchester City with five games remaining. They face Manuel Pellegrini's men at White Hart Lane on May 3 but will need to overcome a difficult away trip to Southampton beforehand to remain in the running.

Wimmer would provide a calm, level-headed presence at the back. Spurs fans are likely looking for bigger names to be attained, though, and they will be hoping Pochettino can lure more than potential to the club in the summer.
