Overview
Sunrisers Hyderabad face a tough challenge against Kolkata Knight Riders—Hyderabad have just one win out of their four games and KKR are on a hot streak.
They are fresh off a six-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils on Monday, having put in a solid, all-round performance. Gautam Gambhir has been Kolkata's most consistent batsman, with three fifties under his belt in four games. Andrew Russell and Suryakumar Yadav have also played key parts in the batting department while Morne Morkel and Umesh Yadav have done the business with the ball.
The only positive for Sunrisers is that Sunil Narine hasn't quite delivered as expected. The mystery spinner averages 54.50 in four games, with just two wickets to his name.
While the competition is not quite at crunch time yet, it is time for Sunrisers to kick on and find a way to start turning their season around. Batsman Kane Williamson has backed the team to come good after the early wobble. He was quoted by ESPNCricinfo as saying:
"It's very important to get the balance right, to play the style of cricket we want to play and I believe we're not far away from that. The last two games we've actually lost on the last ball. That's the way it goes sometimes in T20 cricket and if we can get a little bit of momentum, I'm sure we can start getting a few wins on board.
"
If Williamson believes that T20 is all about momentum, then it’s bad news for Sunrisers considering KKR’s form. Nonetheless, it should make for an interesting tussle.
Key players
Sunrisers
David Warner is Sunriser's best batsman, and he will need to deliver against KKR's tough bowling line-up. Warner is one of just two Hyderabad batsmen to have scored a half century in the tournament thus far, but they will need something special from him in order to take KKR to task.
Kolkata
Gautam Gambhir has found a purple patch and KKR will look to their captain to lead from the front once more. It's vital that he sets the tone at the top of the order so KKR have a solid foundation from which Andre Russell and the other aggressive batsmen can build.
