Pakistan’s new-look batting line-up again failed to fire, with Sarfraz Ahmed (seven) and Mohammad Hafeez (0) getting out cheaply as the team stuttered to 37-2 in the powerplay.

New captain Azhar Ali made a patient 36 but he was caught behind off Shakib Al Hasan in the 16th over. Eight balls later, Fawad Alam went for a duck.

Shakib picked up a second wicket, trapping Mohammad Rizwan lbw for 13, to leave Pakistan in a perilous position at 77-5 before they recovered to keep the contest alive.

Haris Sohail made 44 in a 77-run partnership for the sixth wicket with Saad Nasim, who then put on an unbeaten 85-run stand with Wahab Riaz.

Saad hit six boundaries and a six in making 77 in just his second ODI, while Riaz made only his second ODI half-century in smashing 51 off 40 balls.

Tamim Iqbal scored a century for the hosts in their 79-run win on the same ground 48 hours earlier, and he was again in sparkling form.

Soumya Sarkar and Mahmudullah were both dismissed for 17, but the hosts had already reached 100 when their second wicket fell at the start of the 15th over, with Tamim’s half-century coming off only 31 balls.

He put on 118 with Friday’s other centurion, Mushfiqur Rahim, and the hosts were just 22 runs short of their target when the 'keeper went for 65.

Tamim brought up his sixth one-day international century from 108 balls and hit 17 boundaries and a six in his 116 not out.

The teams complete the ODI series on Wednesday before a Twenty20 International on Friday.
