Arsenal Transfer News: Latest on Isco and Jose Luis Gaya Rumours

Gianni VerschuerenApr 19, 2015

Real Madrid will reportedly listen to offers for star midfielder Isco with an eye on a potential move for Paris Saint-Germain's Marco Verratti or Juventus' Paul Pogba during the summer, and Arsenal will be among the teams keeping a close eye on the latest developments in the Spanish capital.

According to the Daily Mirror's Tom Hopkinson (writing for the Sunday People), a bid of £35 million could convince Los Blancos to sell the Spain international, who impressed early this season but has since experienced somewhat of a regression, via AS English:

There have even been reports of a falling out between the player and Real manager Carlo Ancelotti, something the latter denied recently, as shared by Football Espana:

Isco rose to prominence in the wake of the injury to Luka Modric earlier this season, filling in for the Croatia international in a deeper role than he is accustomed to playing. He moved back to the bench once Modric returned, with James Rodriguez sliding into a more advanced role.

Swapping players in and out of the starting XI is a way of life in Madrid, where there's too much depth to accommodate all of the stars every single match. It's difficult to imagine Isco getting upset at spending some time on the bench, providing the current situation doesn't last.

That said, there are some who feel Isco deserves a spot in the regular XI regardless of the competition, and Malaga winger Juanmi poured some fuel on the fire recently, via AS English:

The 22-year-old is expected to return to the starting XI following Modric's latest injury, per ESPN FC, and barring the arrival of Verratti or Pogba, it seems highly unlikely Los Blancos would consider selling the youngster. Isco has been productive for most of the season, has incredible potential and is veratile enough to help out in every attacking midfield slot, out wide and even up front.

Neither Pogba nor Verratti is a true replacement, either, with both playing a little deeper in midfield. The Champions League holders have the financial power to move for anyone they desire without selling―once again, it makes little sense for them to move Isco.

Everything would change if Isco openly demanded a transfer, and as of right now, that hasn't happened. The former Malaga man is yet to give any indication he's not happy in Madrid, and until that happens, a summer move seems unlikely.

Jose Luis Gaya To Sign New Deal?

Valencia remain adamant young left-back Jose Luis Gaya will sign a new deal with the club during the summer, despite strong rumours talks between both parties have all but ended, according to Super Deporte (via SPORT English):

As reported by Metro's George Bellshaw, club president Amadeo Salvo made it very clear where the future of the talented defender lies, saying: “Gaya will renew with Valencia. You can quote me on that in your respective newspapers.”

According to Bellshaw's piece and ESPN FC, Arsenal and Real Madrid are being linked with the Spain U21 international, who has enjoyed a tremendous breakout campaign and is widely viewed as the next great left-back to emerge from Valencia's vaunted youth setup.

Gaya has all of the tools one looks for in a modern full-back, showcasing plenty of pace and good crossing ability to go along with strong positioning and vision. His defensive ability is impressive for such a young player, but it's in the attacking third where he really shines.

His current deal reportedly holds a £12.9 million release clause, and his reluctance to sign a new deal indicates he may be open to the idea of leaving Valencia during the summer. Because of the clause, Salvo can say whatever he wants―if an offer Gaya likes comes in, it's his choice whether to stay or leave.

And with Marcelo firmly locked in as Los Blancos' starter on the left wing, the Gunners have a good chance of convincing the young Spaniard he would be best served continuing his career in north London.
