Real Madrid Transfer News: Latest on David De Gea and Jose Luis Gaya Rumours

Rob BlanchetteApr 18, 2015

Conflicting reports have surfaced regarding David De Gea's potential move to Real Madrid, with Carlo Ancelotti claiming he will not sign a new goalkeeper in the summer.

Ed Malyon of the Mirror quoted journalist Josep Pedrerol speaking on Spanish television station La Sexta's Jugones show, confirming his belief De Gea has agreed in principle to join Los Blancos for the start of next season:

"

David De Gea has said yes to [Real] Madrid. The Manchester United goalkeeper wants to wear the white of Real Madrid from next season. The club considered many options for the goalkeeping situation but have decided on De Gea.

And David De Gea is clear. He wants to be the Real Madrid goalkeeper. One of the problems had been the future (or not) of Iker Casillas but this is no longer an impediment to the signing of De Gea. Only an agreement between the clubs is lacking.

However, Pedrerol's bold claim has been quashed by Galactico coach Ancelotti, with the Italian saying he wishes Iker Casillas to continue as his No. 1 next year, as reported by Andrew Richardson of The Sun (h/t Joe Harvey of Metro).

"I see myself here next season with Casillas. The three best goalkeepers in the world are at Real Madrid and we have never spoken about signing a goalkeeper."

Ancelotti's words should pour cold water on any further De Gea rumours, but there is no denying Casillas is not the keeper he once was, and the Manchester United man could be motivated to return to his hometown.

The 24-year-old has been nominated for the PFA Player of the Year award in recognition of his consistent brilliance for the Red Devils, achieving 10 clean sheets in the EPL this term, with an average claim success rate of 93 percent, per Squawka.com.

Scott Patterson of ESPN FC believes De Gea should stick with his current team, claiming he will not receive the same adulation and support he has at Old Trafford if he returns to Spain:

"

How many clubs have fans that chant the name of their goalkeeper on a weekly basis? David De Gea seems to be on his own when it comes to a goalkeeper being hailed as a hero by supporters.

...

"Proud to be a red, proud of these fans" De Gea tweeted on after United's 4-2 win over Manchester City last week. Proud enough to commit his future to the club? He should be.

"

De Gea is close to eclipsing Manuel Neuer as the best goalkeeper in the world, if he has already not, and Madrid need a safe pair of hands to take them forward.

But Los Blancos have not previously looked to the marketplace to spend big money on a goalkeeper, and there is doubt they will do this in the very near future.

Financial fair play now weighs heavy in the minds of all of Europe's top teams, and Madrid's desire to buy attacking superstars will always compromise their budget for defensive players.

If De Gea signs a new deal with United at any point in the summer, his valuation could see Madrid look for economical options, with Florentino Perez more motivated to find his next Galactico rather than a shot-stopper.

Jose Luis Gaya To Stay With Valencia

Despite being one of Spain's hottest talents, it appears Jose Luis Gaya will not be Madrid's next young Galactico.

The Valencia player will instead stay at the Mestalla and continue his career with his current club.

Peter Thompson of Goal.com quoted Los Che president Amadeo Salvo refuting claims the 19-year-old will join Ancelotti's squad next term, or reigning Premier League champions Manchester City: "Gaya will renew with Valencia, he’s not joining Madrid. You can quote me on that in your respective newspapers.”

The progressive left-back is assured to become a future full Spain international and his style of play would suit any attacking side in the world.

This season he has appeared 28 times in La Liga for his club, despite his tender age, and he has four assists and one goal to his name, per WhoScored.com.

There is still plenty of time for Gaya, and Valencia know yet another good season with them will increase the player's valuation and suitors.

Madrid would love to take the full-back immediately and develop him in the Los Blancos philosophy, but Valencia are rightfully in no rush to sell such a prodigious talent.

Gaya could develop into the best left-back in world football in the years to come, potentially leading to every top team in Europe chasing his services, with his price rocketing.
