5 Top Performing QB Recruits from 2015 Washington, D.C., Elite 11 Regional

Tyler DonohueApr 20, 2015

Premier prospects and surprise standouts took center stage during Washington, D.C., Elite 11 Regional action Sunday, April 19. Many of the Mid-Atlantic's most dynamic quarterbacks, ranging from high school freshmen to juniors, arrived at Centreville High School in Clifton, Virginia, with ambitions to prove they belong among the best.

Bleacher Report enjoyed an up-close look at drills and competition, identifying players who flourished under pressure. We also caught up with camp leader Matt James, who kept his eyes on the competition and helped determine who ultimately entered the final "Pressure Chamber" phase, to find out what he thought of each top performer.

4-Star Dwayne Haskins

1 of 5

Class: 2016

High School: The Bullis School (Potomac, Maryland)

Size: 6'3", 198 lbs.

247Sports Composite Ranking: No. 65 overall; No. 5 pro-style quarterback

Dwayne Haskins lived up to the hype, earning camp MVP honors among passers. He is rated the top overall uncommitted quarterback in his class, and he validated that sentiment with a steady performance.

He appeared confident and loose throughout, encouraging other competitors while delivering a consistent effort throughout every drill. Haskins called an invitation to Elite 11 finals and The Opening a "dream come true."

His recruiting trail will take him to spring games at Rutgers and Virginia Tech next weekend. Florida, Notre Dame, LSU and Maryland are also among programs in pursuit.

He plans to announce a commitment before the Elite 11 finals take place in early July.

James' comments

"Dwayne is very smooth. He's got a great stroke. The ball comes out of his hand very nicely. It finishes down the field and doesn't get hung up. They're catchable passes that are on kids in a hurry. He's very knowledgeable as far as defensive reads and understanding where to go with the ball. He didn't force things and just made smart decisions all day long."

Unrated Jacob Wilson

2 of 5

Class: 2016

High School: Western Branch (Chesapeake, Virginia)

Size: 6'3", 200 lbs.

247Sports Composite Ranking: Unranked

Jacob Wilson stood out from start to finish, emerging as player who consistently put passes on the money. His success on hitting intermediate targets enabled him to exploit seams in opposing defensive coverage.

He's a compact thrower who stands tall in the pocket. His ability to locate receivers with excellent touch along the sidelines also impressed. Wilson wasn't necessarily a guy you circled as a contender entering the competition, but his performance made sure analysts walked away with a new name on their 2016 quarterback list.

Collegiate interest has predominately come from the FCS level to this point. His offers include Mississippi Valley State and South Carolina State.

James' comments

"He was very consistent throughout the day. He threw a nice, tight spiral. His technique and form were great. He's not going to 'wow' you with is speed, athleticism or arm strength, but he's very consistent. His footwork was excellent and so was his delivery. He was kind of an off-the-radar kid who caught a lot of guys' eyes."

3-Star Jamie Newman

3 of 5

Class: 2016

High School: Graham (Graham, North Carolina)

Size: 6'3", 219 lbs.

247Sports Composite Ranking: No. 643 overall; No. 17 dual-threat quarterback

This big-framed playmaker has plenty of physical attributes that shine. Jamie Newman doesn't need much space to squeeze the football into tight frames, flashing formidable arm strength.

He can sling it 40 yards downfield without sacrificing substantial velocity and displayed quality vision during different phases of each play. Though there weren't any pass-rushing defenders involved Sunday, Newman looks like a load to bring down in the backfield and can create plays with his legs.

His recruitment lasted less than a full day after the conclusion of camp, as he committed to Wake Forest on Monday. Newman's offer sheet also features East Carolina, Syracuse, Duke, West Virginia and Boston College.

James' comments

"He was probably my second favorite guy behind Haskins. Jamie had a really good day. He's got a big body, can run the football well and is an impressive athlete. The consistency from throw to throw is where he'll improve. I told him, 'One throw you look like a Division I first-rounder, and another throw it looks like you're just from around.' Still, he had a strong day."

3-Star Dylan Parham

4 of 5

Class: 2016

High School: Southeast Raleigh (Raleigh, North Carolina)

Size: 6'4 ½", 198 lbs.

247Sports Composite Ranking: No. 601 overall; No. 28 pro-style quarterback

Dylan Parham picked things up as the day progressed, though he popped out even before action began due to his massive stature. He stood tall among a crowded crop of quarterbacks and may not be done growing at this stage of his development.

Parham blends a desirable physical frame with quality athleticism. He looked coordinated and compact while operating on the move, keeping his shoulders square and eyes focused downfield.

He locked in a commitment to North Carolina State last November. The Wolfpack will look to piece offensive talent around him in the 2016 class.

James' comments

"He's another kid with a big frame who looks the part of a college quarterback prospect. There were some ups and downs with his performance, but Dylan did a nice job working on technique throughout the day. He needs to polish some things as a passer, but there were several times he put the ball on target."

Unrated Alex Farina

5 of 5

Class: 2016

High School: Desert Vista (Phoenix, Arizona)

Size: 6'1", 188 pounds

247Sports Composite Ranking: Unranked

Alex Farina traveled far from home to measure up his skills against several DI-bound contemporaries. The visit paid off, as he found himself among the camp's top five competitors by day's end.

Other passers may have put more zip on the ball, but Farina managed to outshine many of them by dropping dimes in work against defensive looks. His throws came out clean on a consistent basis and were often put in spots where only his receivers had an opportunity to pull down the ball.

Farina holds an offer from Northern Arizona. He's a candidate to gain increased traction as a Pac-12 target, especially after other, more acclaimed quarterbacks come off the board.

James' comments

"He's a little bit undersized, but he threw the ball well. He started in Group Four and worked his way all the way up. Just watching him throughout the day, he probably threw one of the nicer balls we saw in camp. His technique and footwork was sharp. He stood out, battled and earned it."
