IPL 2015: Top Run-Scorers, Averages, Wicket-Takers After Sunrisers vs Royals T20
The Rajasthan Royals showcased their supreme skills with ball in hand against the Hyderabad Sunrisers, securing six-wicket win in Visakhapatnam.
Pravin Tambe and Dhawal Kulkarni set the tone superbly for the Royals after putting Hyderabad into bat, taking four wickets between them at vital times. As such, the Sunrisers struggled for momentum throughout their batting effort and scraped together a meagre score of 127 for five.
For a team as confident as Rajasthan, it was always going to be too small a total, but the Royals did leave things late despite a fine 62 from Ajinkya Rahane. Although they were in control throughout the chase, it was left to James Faulkner to score the one run required off the final ball of the match.
Here’s how today’s match affects various individual classifications and a closer look at some of the day’s standout performances.

Pravin Tambe Leads Excellent Royals Bowling Display
Those who attend IPL matches typically want to see the ball sailing over their head for six, and although we all enjoy a boisterous batting display, the bowlers play an understatedly vital role in this particular format. It was something that was on show in earnest for Rajasthan, as their bowlers set up a solid victory.
Steve Smith decided to put Hyderabad into bat, clearly anticipating that conditions would make it difficult to score quickly. But credit must go to the Royals' bowlers for exploiting the wicket and making early inroads into a fragile Sunrisers batting lineup.
As noted by Harsha Bhogle, while they have extraordinary strength in depth with the ball, Pravin Tambe was the key man:
"I think it is amazing that in a team that regularly uses 7-8 bowlers Pravin Tambe is the 4 overs bowler! #RajasthanRoyals #PepsiIPL
— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) April 16, 2015"
The 43-year-old finished up with figures of 21 for two from his four overs, showcasing the kind of control that can be so valuable in this format as well as the edge needed to take wickets.
In this encounter, the spinner prised out both Naman Ojha and Eoin Morgan in back-to-back overs, just as the pairing were beginning to build some momentum for the hosts.
His ball to dismiss Ojha was an absolute beauty, as noted by Gaurav Kapur:
"Pravin Tambe fined by traffic police. That ball turned left too fast and without indicator. #PepsiIPL
— Gaurav Kapur (@gauravkapur) April 16, 2015"
Tambe is so experienced in this particular format and while all eyes have been on the exceptional exploits of Steve Smith in the opening weeks of this IPL, the veteran bowler deserves immense credit for his performances, especially this one.
If Rajasthan are going to go far in this tournament, his devious deliveries will surely play an important part as the Royals continue to showcase they are one of the most multifaceted sides in the competition.
